After calling and complaining and asking for something to be done for over 20+ years, Lakewood Public Works finally responded to the flooding problem on Albert Avenue.
They put traffic cones up.
That won’t really stop the flooding of the basement, or drain the water, or give it a place to go, or stop cars from braking down when they get soaked and stop running. But after 20+ years they did SOMETHING.
Now if they could really just correct the problem, that would be great.

Very true. The road is equaly as bad on that block between Oak and Salem Streets.
The Mayer answered a question the other week regarding upgrades however I don’t believe that block is on the agenda (2 houses of construction is not an answer to 40 year old roads)
Wow. That IS terrible. That is NOT a joke. This is not the only Street w a problem. TLS posted pics yesterday of Squankum Rd , which also was flooded. Maybe the guys working on the traffic issue can also work on the drainage issue.
The area has no sewers, no hydrants and no place for the water to go..if you want to let the town build up the sewer system there and put in water lines they can improve it but your taxes are going to get higher. It is one of the only areas left in town that does not have public water and hydrants. So you make up your minds..Stop building and complaining about it.You bought in that neighborhood knowing it was under developed. Now you want everything done, it will take time, and years to do. There is nothing that can done overnight. Sorry but your building up the town is collapsing the system, it can not move as fast as you building houses
Thats horrible. @usesomelogic – ur right. Theres a car on Squankum Rd in front of Whispering Pines that has tires frozen to the rims. Some parts of this town are terrible. But we’re also in a valley, kind of, Im not sure what, if anything, can be done.
The flooding on Squankum Road probably has more to do with the fact that on paper, the Cabinfield branch of the Metedeconk River terminates right between Kol Shimshon and Farm Fresh. In reality, this body of water continues underground (either naturally or through old, unrecorded pipes) all the way through to Georgian Court College, and possibly beyond. It may not be apparent above ground, but it is there, and with the severe flooding event on Tuesday, the water level rose at that low spot. Those who live on the imaginary line between this location on Squankum Road and Forest Avenue between 11th and Carey St should be aware of the increased risk of flooding and wet basements on their properties

The zoning in this nieghborhood has not changed yet, there is almost the exact same amount of families living there.
So your argument of building doesn’t add up.
Road should be re-paved years ago. Sewer drain always an issue there, nothing new. Maybe drive there.
I really hope that this is not sewer water! I believe you mean you need better storm drains. Sometimes a good cleanout of the drains can help but when you have a tremendous amount of water coming very quickly, the drains get overwhelmed and can overflow. The most the township will do is a cleanout which is what you should be requesting because the drains are very possibly at least partially clogged and this will slow the water flow. Stop asking for “something” to be done because then you’ll get cones! Know what to ask for.
