Letter: Thank You LCSW

Reader-submitted: We would like to take this moment to publicly thank Jay Varga from LCSW for going out of his way to help us over Pesach.

On the first day of Pesach, my 6 year old daughter woke up with a puffy, swollen cheek. She complained that her tooth was hurting her and after taking a look at her tooth, I knew that she needed medication that day to bring down the infection. In the afternoon, I walked with my daughter to a doctor’s house to see if he can give my daughter a prescription for medication. When we finally arrived at the doctor's house, we noticed a note on the door saying that he is away for the holiday, but he can be found at his son’s house. Below the note was his son’s address. His son lived quite far from us. There was no way we would be able to walk there.

We walked home discussing our options of how we can get to the doctor, when my daughter suddenly noticed an LCSW car making its way down the avenue. “I know,” my daughter said, “You can ask LCSW to help.”
We flagged down the car, and related our predicament to the ever patient Jay Varga. He said it would not be a problem – he would go to the doctor for us. He took down my daughter’s information and took care of the details to get to the doctor. (Thanks to the other units who also helped out).

A little while later, Jay came to our house. He managed to find the doctor and get a prescription for my daughter. We gave him our insurance card. He said that he will bring it to a pharmacy and get back to us in about an hour with the medication. What happened next was completely unexpected.

Jay returned some time later with the medication for my daughter! My husband thanked him and asked him if everything worked out okay.

Jay, in his soft manner related to us that when he got to the local pharmacy, they informed him that they don't accept our insurance and to pay out of pocket will be quite expensive. Jay didn’t give up. He asked them which is the closest pharmacy that will accept our insurance. They told him about a pharmacy in Toms River that accepts our insurance and off he went! Just like that.

My family was blown away at his devotion to the lakewood community. He stopped to see what we needed, and then didn’t stop for the next two plus hours until the medication was in our hands. He related in such an unboastful manner how he went all the way to Toms River. He made it sound like it wasn’t even a big deal. The next morning, the swelling in my daughter’s cheek went down and she was back to her happy self.

Thank you Jay and LCSW for all that you do for our community. We greatly appreciate the night patrols and the safety measures that you take into your hands to keep us safe at all times.

Forever Grateful,

The Family S.
