Lakewood resident captures frightening motorcycle accident on video

The following dashcam video was captured by a Lakewood resident today on the New Jersey Turnpike.

The resident says, it appears the driver of the car stopped his vehicle on the left side of the road to retrieve an item that apparently fell out of his vehicle. The driver appears to be the man seen on the left shoulder seconds prior to the accident.

The motorcyclist apparently did not notice the stopped vehicle, and slammed into the car, going airborne and over the median.

The rider reportedly suffered non life-threatening injuries.

  1. Did anyone else notice the pedestrian on the left side of the road about midway through? Why was that person there? Can’t believe someone would just stop in the passing lane of a highway.

Why is this piece written like its the motorcyclist’s fault? Let me rewrite this for you. Idiot car driver stops his car in the hammer lane (fast lane) of a multilane highway when he could have easily stopped on the left or right shoulder. Multiple vehicles jam on their brakes or change lanes at the kast minute to avoid the car at a dead stop in the fast lane. One poor soul on a motorcycle could not swerve/stop fast enough to avoid the stopped vehicle in the middle of the highway and hits the back of the car. Anyone who sees the video can clearly tell who is at fault. The car driver should receive a stiff penalty, lots of tickets and his insurance should pay to fix the guy’s motorcycle and his medical bills. But we all know that wont happen. Idiot car driver is lucky that he didnt get ran over himself and that a motorcycle hit his car and not an 18 wheeler. The level of stupidy behind the wheel never surprises me. All for a bag. You could have killed someone or yourself.

  3. Blessings and prayers to the motorcyclists and families. Stupidity vs criminal? I just feel sorry for everyone involved. What was he thinking?

  4. Yes, the car driver is an idiot, but all drivers and riders are responsible for paying attention to the road ahead of them. If you can’t avoid something stopped in the lane, you are going too fast, not paying attention or don’t have control of your own vehicle.

  5. Ok the car driver is a big idiot and should have no license… The cops passing cars cars from right, follow truck too closely (tailgating) then change lanes when they could not see what is ahead?

  6. Did most of the posters actually watch the video closely? The truck cut in front of the group of motorcycles from the right to center lane. As you can clearly see from the video, taken from the car driving in the right lane, the car parked was nearly impossible to see prior to coming around the curve in tbe road,no hazards on, i would love to see how some of you would fair if you had to make a split second life or desth decision at any speed. Also not that you can also clearly see the motorcyclists breaking after the truck changed lanes prior to their lane change. Accusing any of the motorcyclists of not paying attention is criminal, who parks on the left lane of the NJ Turnpike for any reason without at least signalling their hazards? Even in the event of a breakdown a rational capable driver would pull to the shoulder. Anyone who says the motorcyclists are at fault at all is a person speaking from a place of prejudice and ignorance. This particular group of riders was composed of veterans, police and firefighters. If not for their quick reaction from training and some good samaritans stopping to assist the poor cyclist that was injured might not be alive today. Shame on anyone who would dare to defend or condone the actions of such an irresponsible car driver.

    • I agree with a Frank and some of the others, I was a firefighter for nine years and have seen some pretty horrific accidents. I’m ashamed to say I watched the vid multiple times in some kind of morbid fascination, but also studying it clip by clip. The bikers were not at fault. Moron who parked his car is lucky to be alive walking up the shoulder like that. What if it had been another car or god forbid a tractor trailer that hit the parked car. That could have been disastrous with the potential for multiple fatalities. And would all you nay sayers and motorcycle-enthusiasts-haters be blaming those drivers too? Share the road and don’t be stupid.
