[COMMUNICATED] At the end of this month, tzedaka organization Kupat Ha’Ir will be celebrating a monumental achievement: A full year of the strikingly successful ‘Orphan Wedding’ tzedaka project. 27 orphaned bride & grooms have been hand-selected for the month of Tammuz, and once the money has been raised for their chuppahs, Kupat Ha’Ir and the generous donors of klal yisroel will have successfully married off an unbelievable 1000 orphaned couples in Israel.

The 27 orphans of Tammuz were chosen due to their serious poverty, and lack of parental help. Weddings are meant to be a time of joy. For orphans, however, it can be a painful reminder of grief & loss. These young men & women will walk to their chuppah without their parents, and are often unable to afford things like a wedding gown, or kitchen supplies for their home. The Kupat Ha’Ir Orphan Wedding Project has striven to spare these young people from humiliation & grief, and to help them begin their new lives with a sense of hope.

Rav Chaim Kanievsky, who has overseen the project, has made powerful statement regarding this month’s campaign. He has stated that since this is the last campaign of the year, it is as if those who donate to help these 27 orphans had helped to marry all 1,000. From the mouth of a gadol in Torah it must be understood that this is not an exaggeration. He has promised to pray for each donor, and is quoted as saying they should be “blessed a thousand times.”
