Reader-submitted: Health insurance

Dear Lakewood Scoop, I am wondering if you can help me by posting this. I was on NJ Family Care for many years. Baruch HaShem my income has recently changed, and now I am not sure if I will be eligible. I can probably still be eligible for my kids , but if my income changes just a tiny bit more, then I will be knocked off.

I am desperately looking to purchase health insurance. We are a family of seven and it seems there are no real affordable options. The quotes are between 14-20k per year!! And that doesn’t include deductibles. Actually most of the plans don’t even allow me to go to a doctor outside of the state.

There is a plan called Liberty Health Share that will be $500 a month. Does anyone have experience with it? Is it insurance? Do doctors accept it? Has anyone had a negative experience with them? If anyone can advise I would be greatly appreciate it.

Thanks,

A grateful citizen.

  1. Wow! Just the right time for this post, I’m looking for insurance as well & heard about this but need info in them, anyone to help with experience either way

  2. It is not insurance.
Many doctors do accept it, CHEMED does not.
So far they have fully paid my kids pediatrician without any issues.
For more in depth information call 1855-585-4237
They will answer all your questions

  3. Thank you for posting this. I am actually in the same situation and was wondering the same about Liberty. If anyone can please advise, that will be great!
    Thank you

  4. I was wondering the same thing. I pay health insurance for myself, and came across an advertisement in a local paper about Liberty Healthshare. By switching I would be able to save a significant amount of money every month. The reviews online are very mixed and got me worried that they won’t pay my claims. I would love to hear feedback from real people who have experience with this health sharing plan.

  5. My understanding is that Obama care regulations provided an exception to religious entities. So these religious organizations create plans that are not bound by Obama Care. It is not an insurance plan, rather a sharing program. Everyone’s premiums goes into a pool and payment is made from the pool. Another example is mychristiancare.org.

  6. Did you try something called Obamacare? With your income vs. dependants You should be eligible for a very low premium via tax credits and your deductibles should be pretty close to zero (at least for tier 1 doctors)thanks to cost sharing… Maybe you should call the lrrc +1 732-942-9292 and BTW you should ask your Rov about joining a program that has other beliefs…

    • Your reason for not working long hours makes no sense.
Yes it is hard to make it these days
Yet these programs are only in place to help people temporarily
You seem to want everything yet don’t want to earn it yourself.

  7. From their website:
    There is strength in numbers.
Join a community of health-conscious people who practice longstanding Christian principles in sharing healthcare costs. Liberty HealthShareâ„  exists for everyone who purchases healthcare for themselves or their family, or who wants to control their own healthcare.

Liberty HealthShareâ„  is not insurance. It simply unites like-minded people to share medical costs together.

  9. I spoke to someone that is on liberty health care he had very good experience with them, the question is if they are sustainable if allot of Lakewood families with large families join the network.

  10. Although you got kicked off jersey care, your kids should still be eligible with a very low premium. Look into it.
Than you and your spouse can get insurance on Obama care site for a low sum. Goodman Luck

  11. i am on it for a while. Almost Everyone accepts it. If the doctor doesnt then i pay out of pocket and submit it to Liberty Health share and they reimburse me personally. Every hospital will take it in case chas vesholom.. Its great. Covers up to 1Mil per incident. The only thing you have to know is that noone in your family can have a preexisting condition when you get onto it cuz that they wont cover.

  12. I know someone who had to take a cut in salary – work less hours just to be able to be insured! Obamacare is a total failure and is not affordable health car at all. The middle class simply cannot afford it. I didn’t have insurance for 20 years because I couldn’t afford it. Now I am old enough for Medicare and that is all I have, no supplementary insurance.

  13. How these sharing programs are sustainable is beyond me. Insurance companies almost never pay the full charges they have agreements with hospitals and doctors as to how much they get reimbursed. These cost sharing programs are on the hook for the full bill and BTW there is a provision in the ACA (Obamacare) called the 80/20 rule which is that 80% of your premium is only going towards healthcare (claims)..So the insurance companies are really not making and charging that much more than necessary for them to be staying afloat… It’s a real rule as I have received part of my premium back from horizon..

  14. Welcome to the world of the real Obama Care. My premiums went from 12,000 to 30,000 in the past couple of years. Oh yeah the Obama people brag how many more people have insurance of course. But we’re all bankrupt in the process…

  15. Can’t believe it but I’m in a similar situation! The only difference is that I don’t have insurance… Family of 7 too. They’re asking for 25k a year! N it doesn’t cover everything… Any ideas? (Yes, I called insurance agencies but it’s 25k, need better ideas).
    Thanks

  16. My name is Yitzchak Gottesman. I have personally Refered close to 2000 Frum Heimishe familiesonto Liberty Health Shares over the last 18 months. I am happy to answer ANY questions about the plan. Call me anytime 732-300-4292.

  17. DO NOT SIGN UP WITH LIBERTY SHARE YOU ARE RISKING YOUR LIFE IF GOD FORBID THERE IS A HIGE CLAIM WHONIS GUARENTEEING IT WILL BE PAID??? I WOULD LOVE TO SEE A LARGE CLAJM THEY PAID (and the purpose of ins is for a large claim). NOT TO SEE CHEMED OR SHANIK

  18. BE careful There may be A Shaila if you can join as part of the process of joining is you have to sign that you believe Jesus is the Savior etc. Which amounts to Apikorses. Our forefathers died not wanting to utter these words, even to save their lives, Died!! Imagine what they would say that we are signing such a statement to save money RL.

  19. You got a quote of $14-20k a year ? Thats it ?!!! Grab it !! I have a daiggter with an epilepsy disorder. So i meed a good insurance. Im paying Over $36,000/yr. I would LOVE a plan that only costs $20,000/yr tgat adequately protected my family. Be happy !!

  20. Welcome to the world of paying for insurance! IT IS NOT AFORDABLE! Have been doing this for the past few years now. No im not rich. Me and my husband work full time. Our parents are poor. We pay for everything. We rent and dont know if well ever be able to buy a house. And yes for several years now we have been paying thousands and thousands of dollars for insurance. Something has to change!

  21. If you’re still eligible for Jersey care then your kids should definitely stay eligible for quite a while even once you get kicked off. for a family of five children can stay on Jersey care up until 100K income. in regards to yourself you can get a not so high cost Obama care Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield silver plan. if you only just missed qualifying for Jersey care it won’t even cost you more than $200 per month for you and your wife I’m on that plan with no subsidies and it costs. me and my wife 650 a month together. Is it a great plan no but it’s adequate unless you have serious medical expenses

  22. Liberty health share is the health insurance equivalent of Areivim for life insurance, its there in case needed but its still recommended that you get an actual insurance policy

  23. To know your facts,
You don’t have to believe in their beliefs.
All it is, is everyone sharing in each others costs.
It’s a great way for middle-class families to have coverage without paying the astronomical costs of regular Insurance.
    Yitzchok Gottesman is great.

  24. CHEMED does not accept libertyshare directly but you can pay Chemed out of pocket and then libertyshare will reimburse the full amount.

  25. I used this for coverage for the adults https://www.healthcare.gov/ when we were no longer eligible for jersey care. Our kids are still eligible for jersey care but we have a copay. For us parents we are paying about $2,000 a yr. It is income based so of course the cost will vary. I hope that works out for you. (Even if you have to pay $5,000 a yr, it’s a lot better than what others are paying)

  26. I have spoken to prominent rabbonim who said that one is not allowed to sign the contract. They understood that it was a big savings of money to join and they also understood that you are only signing to join and that you do not really agree with their beliefs. It would not help in their opinion to sent the company some sort of disclaimer for them to file in your account either. Look into it carefully and read thoroughly the contract before checking off the agree box at the end. Specifically look at member qualifications and requirements which you can see on their website. We read proudly about the sacrifice our forefathers made in times of shmad. Only sign up after researching well.

  27. As mentioned in #22 be aware that there is a shaila regarding this as it is a Xtian based entity. Be familiar with the fine print and ask a rov.

  28. Yes that’s the poor middle class there’s is no cheap options might be worth making a little less money and staying on insurance until you can make a significant amount more that would cover insurance. Welcome to backwards America either do nothing and get everything free and have a good time and even make some cash on the side or work hard and and pay for everything. Good luck

  29. Not all company’s require to sign anything related to christianity, actually the one that the oilem in lakewoid is signing up does not require more than a cobfirmation that u believe in god nothing with Christianity.contact mr gottessman as he is extremely knowledgeable.

  30. The only real solution to everyone’s complaint in this post is a single payer system. No more premiums or deductibles. So even if your taxes go up, you are still saving tens of thousands of dollars. Every other major country in the world can do it, so can we.

  31. Responding to “by yid” premiums are less then 30k I just signed up a large family today for 18k with no deductible do your research call call local agents in town. GOING WITH LIBERTY SHARE CAN RACHMANA LITZLON COME OUT TOBMORE THEN 30k. U CAN LOOSE UR HOUSE AND ALL IR FINACIALS IF CHAS V’CHALILA THERE ISBA HUGE CLAIM!!

  32. Welcome to the class of the working poor. Between my wife and I we make about 180k a year. That may seem like a lot but because we make so much we not eligible for anything. Our expenses before we wake up.
    Taxes from Pay check 60k
    Personal health insurance 25k
Therapy for my sick child 10k a year
Tuition and babysitting 12k a year

We both drive used cars with many dents. Welcome to the working poor…..

  33. Jut because you a are not eligible for Jersey care does not mean that you have cheap premiums. My family of four is making 90,000 a year and we are above the limit for Jersey care even with the premiums. We also get no discount from Obamacare the only solution for me was to find a job that offered good insurance

  34. To J that said that the answer to all of these issues is single payer healthcare, I’m originally from Canada I’m quite familiar with the single payer healthcare. you are correct that in the long run it might not cost you as much money but when you’re in a serious medical situation like family members of mine were and you find out that there’s a four month waiting list for an MRI and there’s nothing you can do about it unless you pay thousands of dollars out-of-pocket or your doctor is taking a month off of work because he already reached their maximum amount he’s allowed to make you just can’t find a doctor accepting new patients you’ll realize that single payer is not the answer to everything

  35. Having a PEMF device or a few for a family can cut down tremendously on healing costs and enhance life very much for a 1 time purchase of under $1000 per person[with 90 day money back warranty]. these devices are used to sleep with and will help the human body deal with minor and Major dis-eases including ADHD etc.
