A 15-year-old bicyclist was killed after being struck by a vehicle last night on Route 70.
At about 10:45pm, Officers responded to the intersection of State Highway 70 and Burnt Tavern Road for a crash involving a bicyclist and a vehicle.
“The initial investigation revealed that a 15-year-old bicyclist was Traveling on Burnt Tavern Rd and was crossing Route 70, heading north,” police said. “At this time, a 2017 Subaru Forrester was traveling West on Route 70 approaching Burnt Tavern Rd. As the bicyclist entered the West bound lane on Route 70, it was struck by the Subaru. The impact caused the bicyclist to strike the windshield, afterwhich, he was thrown to the ground and sustained fatal injuries.”
The Brick Police Officers, Police Emergency Medical Services and MONOC Paramedics arrived and attempted, unsuccessfully, to revive the injured bicyclist.
The intersection of Route 70 and Burnt Tavern Rd was closed during the investigation and reopened for traffic at 01:08 am.
Ptl. Keith Donnelly, Ptl. Dierking from the Brick Police Traffic Safety Unit along with the Ocean County Prosecutors Fatal Accident Investigation unit is conducting the investigation.
