A fire has ripped through an apartment building in Lakewood moments ago.
The fire broke out on Sophee Lane shortly before 3 PM.
Police and Firefighters are frantically trying to evacuate everyone from the building.
UPDATE: A large portion of the rear of the building is in flames. It’s reportedly a senior development.
Lakewood EMS, Lakewood First Aid and Hatzolah all have multiple members on scene.
UPDATE: Reports of 2 officers hospitalized for smoke inhalation.
UPDATE: Multiple paramedics are being requested to the scene. A chopper was requested for at least one patient.
UPDATE: Dozens of firefighters from Lakewood and surrounding townships are battling the blaze.
UPDATE 4PM: Though not yet confirmed, it appears all have been evacuated from the building. One person was seriously injured, and several other were hospitalized, including an EMS member.
All local and County Authorities have responded for the investigation.
The Red Cross was called in to assist with placement of dozens of residents.
UPDATE 4:18 PM. The fire has been mostly contained.
UPDATE: 4:58 PM. A total of seven people were reportedly hospitalized, at least one with severe injuries.
UPDATE 6:05 PM: Two firefighters were also hospitalized, officials say.
An investigation is underway.
