Following this morning’s traffic nightmare from repaving on Oberlin Avenue in the Industrial Park, the work has been rescheduled.Parents tell TLS it took them over an hour to navigate the gridlock.
With calls pouring into the Township, township officials intervened, and shut down the job.
Department of Public Works Director Pat Donnelly tells TLS all the road work has been rescheduled, and will be taking place over Sukkos, weather permitting.

The Lakewood Industrial Commission (LIC) with the cooperation of the Township Committee is repaving several roads in the Lakewood Industrial Park through an arrangement with the Ocean County Road Department.
All paving is scheduled to begin about 10:00 a.m. Weather permitting, Bennett Boulevard (450 feet) and Swarthmore Avenue (1500 feet) will be repaved October 10 – 13. Although portions of the 3,700 feet of Oberlin Avenue have been completed, the rest of the paving is scheduled for October 5 and 6. The repaving of Towbin (3,000 feet) has been completed
Steve Reinman, the executive director of the LIC, said, “I am very pleased that in cooperation with the Lakewood Township Committee and the County the LIC is able to bring such great value to the many important businesses in the Industrial Park. These repaved roads will make visiting the Park a more pleasant and safe experience for employees and customers alike.”
Committeeman Mike D’Elia said, “The Township Committee thanks the LIC very much for unanimously approving the funds to repave some roads in the Lakewood Industrial Park.”
This is almost as good as Mayor LaGarden Hose calling off the “bullzoders” at the last minute, from destroying Anshei Kartofel!
Wow thanks! It was more than a nightmare!! People walking with little children to get to their destination because traffic was not moving!! 8 pm to 6 am would be a good time to do the job
Once again a big Thank you to all our elected officials for being there for the community and taking swift action!! We must remember to thank our officials for everything they do, instead of complaining for whet they dont (and usually arent capable of doing)
So why was it scheduled to be done then, in the first place? Is that how things work: First create an unnecessary crisis and then swoop in to dave the day? This way they come out looking like heroes.
Maybe they can meanwhile pave the grid streets between lakewood ave. And princeton ave. And 1st till 14th
Thank you. But please just a little sechel . Think before starting a job. Its obvious that such a job should not have been scheduled during school days
Perhaps if there were NO SCHOOLS etc. in the industrial park there would not be gridlock. This will probably be edited out.
I off of pine street. A two minute drive to Lakewood Cheder took over an hour.
How did this happen in the first place!!
…Dont answer
Whether paving street or some other thing that needs to be done, It should never be done during beginning of school hours. Make it after 11:00am-3pm if need be. Also ttheir going to do it over sukkas. That means more gridlock chiol hamoed and hopefully dr Richards outing will not be effected.
They should learn something they almost do half normal in Brooklyn. Do it during the summer months when its quiet and less people around. You get more done faster.
The best time to do road work is on Yom Tov. This year we have Three x 2 days for a total if six days.
Thank you it took me one hour to get the children into school and another 45 min. To get my girls just to pick up for school
