Colon campaign announces slew of endorsements

The campaign for Eliot Arlo Colon, candidate for New Jersey Assembly announced this week four major endorsements by organizations around the state.

The New Jersey Education Association (NJEA) announced their endorsements for the 2017 election year, including backing Eliot Arlo Colon for New Jersey State Assembly in District 30.

In a press release, NJEA announced that “the 125-member political action committee of the 200,000-member (NJEA) has voted to endorse 98 candidates for election to the New Jersey Legislature this November,” with Mr. Colon receiving their endorsement.

“I cannot properly express my gratitude,” said Mr. Colon. “Having served on Brielle’s Board of Education for nearly 10 years as a member and now sitting president, receiving the NJEA’s endorsement of my candidacy is a dream come true.”

Mr. Colon has established education as the core of his campaign. He has announced support of proper funding for the arts and humanities as well as opposing the Secure Schools for All Children Act, sponsored by incumbent Assemblyman Sean Kean. The bill would provide schools with $25.00 per pupil to help ensure security measures for nonpublic school children. Public school students already receive about $75.00 per pupil for security aid.

In a statement, Mr. Colon argued that, “While the bill is a step in the right direction to insure the safety of ‘all children’, public or private, special or non-special needs, it does not go far enough to ensure the safety of our most vulnerable, especially those with special needs who are often placed in nonpublic schools.”

JNESO Healthcare Union District Council 1 announced last week their formal endorsement of New Jersey legislator candidates running for both State Assembly or State Senate, including Mr. Colon.

According to a statement by JNESO, the group’s board of director’s voted unanimously to endorse 100 candidates in various elections across the state.

In a statement, Board President Elfrieda Johnson, stated “We need leaders who are ready and willing to fight alongside us to protect and preserve the quality of care for patients and help improve working conditions for all nurses, tech’s and healthcare professionals throughout the State of New Jersey.”

Mr. Colon thanked JNESO for their formal endorsement of his campaign, saying, “Healthcare is a top priority for the state of New Jersey, including the protection and well-being of those healthcare workers and professionals. We must ensure a thriving and successful healthcare system in New Jersey, not for economic gains or financial security, but because a bad healthcare industry can quite literally become a matter of life and death.”

The United Automobile, Aerospace, and Agricultural Implement Workers of America (UAW) Region 9 union officially endorsed Eliot Arlo Colon, candidate for New Jersey Assembly in Legislative District 30, Mr. Colon’s campaign announced.

In a letter sent directly to Mr. Colon, UAW affirmed their support of his candidacy for the State Assembly.

“It is with great pride that I have been endorsed by an organization like the UAW that puts ‘people and families first’ and goes above and beyond to help, even help those who are not members of their UAW community,” said Mr. Colon.

Finally, Health Professionals and Allied Employees (HPAE) has announced its formal endorsement of Eliot Arlo Colon, candidate for New Jersey Assembly in Legislative District 30.

HPAE represents 13,000 nurses and healthcare workers in hospitals and other health care facilities throughout New Jersey.

Ann Twomey, president of HPEA, wrote in a direct letter to Eliot, “We recognize your leadership and shared vision for healthcare workers and our patients.”

Mr. Colon thanked President Twomey for the union’s endorsement of his candidacy, saying, “I want to let all HPAE workers know that you have an ally in the Assembly should I be elected. This endorsement means a great deal to me and I will fight for your rights as health professionals and employees as we work to perfect New Jersey’s healthcare system.”

According to the union’s website, HPAE is the largest union of Registered Nurses and health care professionals in New Jersey.

“With more than to 13,000 members, we are also the fastest growing health care union in the state, as our membership has more than tripled in size since 1981,” said the website.

“HPAE members in our 22 “locals” include nurses, social workers, therapists, technicians, medical researchers and other healthcare professionals. We work in hospitals, nursing homes, home care agencies, blood banks and university research facilities throughout New Jersey and the Philadelphia area,” said the website.
