Police say the cyclist struck and killed by a vehicle yesterday in Lakewood disregarded a red light, and rode into traffic.
As earlier reported, at approximately 3:20pm yesterday afternoon, Officers responded to the report of a pedestrian struck by a passing motorist at the intersection of Rt. 70 and Buckingham Drive.
“Upon arrival, Officers quickly learned that a 61-year-old Lakewood man was struck by a 2014 Kia while attempting to cross Rt 70 on his bicycle,” Detective Sergeant Greg Staffordsmith said. “The operator of the Kia, a 38-year-old Toms River woman, stated she was traveling eastbound on Rt 70. As she approached the intersection, the victim, who disregarded a red traffic light, rode his bicycle directly into her path. As a result the vehicle struck the man causing significant and fatal injuries.”
Rt 70 eastbound was shut down for approximately three hours while investigators were on scene.
“This investigation is still ongoing, however no charges have been filed at this time,” Staffordsmith said.
Anyone with information is urged to contact Traffic Safety Officer David Silberstein or Det. Chase Messer at 732-363-0200.
And you know Ralph ran the red light how exactly?? What proof? Cameras? Other eye witnesses besides the driver?
It was caught on dashcam and was provided to the police. The cyclist is entirely at fault.
He almost got hit walking home drunk the night before…
Ralph (cyclist) had a serious drinking problem. Any life lost is a tragedy but let’s face reality and stop blaming the driver
Caught on what dashcam?? Who’s dashcam? Who’s reality? Yours?
Because you were there and witnessed it? Sounds fabricated and convenient since the deseased cant defend himself. And it’s low to publish an article like this without providing any supporting evidence. And in any case, it’s completely unnecessary and disparaging hearsay.
Paul, I’m not sure what your issue is but the sad fact is that the cyclist disregarded the traffic light and biked right into oncoming traffic. I have the dashcam footage taken from the car behind the vehicle that hit the cyclist and the entire incident was captured clearly. Since you asked, it was captured by my vehicle.
I’m not sure why you’re acting so hostile.
Bert have you ever almost gotten hit walking home? Give me a break.
