Lakewood Police Chief Greg Meyer answers your ‘Ask The Chief’ questions: 3rd Street

The following is an ‘Ask The Chief’ question submitted to TLS, and the Chief’s response. Email your questions for the Chief to AskTheChief@thelakewoodscoop.com.

Question:

Good Afternoon Chief Meyer,

When making a left turn from Madison Ave. to Third Street (Driving Southbound on Madison Ave) there is no lane for left turns, unlike most other streets on Madison Ave. Is there a specific reason for this? I observe people stay in the middle to make left turns which could pose a danger for oncoming traffic.

I look forward to your response.

All the best,

Stanley

The Chief’s Response:

Sorry for the late response, but I do remember receiving this and after checking on it when Madison Avenue was restriped to allow left turns onto certain streets Third Street was still one way at that time. We are waiting on the State to make a decision on a restripe of a left turn lane at that intersection. In the meantime, I would exercise extreme caution when choosing to make that left or use either 4th St or 2nd St as the parking lots are all connected now.

Third street was changed without required state approval

  • Anonymous says:

ah but using a parking lot to get through is safer but a violation

  • lkwder says:

Chief did not say to use the parking lots as a “go thru” BUT that you can enter the parking lots from the other entrances.
If you are trying to get to the parking lot between 3rd and 2nd, you can enter from EITHER 2nd OR 3rd street, make your left on 2nd street.
If you are trying to get to the parking lot between 3rd & 4th, make your left on 4th street (though actually, you cannot enter this parking lot from 3rd street anyway) if you are trying to get EXPLICITLY to 3rd street, you can always still park in the parking lot….
