Piercing the Darkness of Substance Abuse and Suicide, Amudim Offers Ray of Hope with DeScribe Music Video (WARNING – VIEWER DISCRETION ADVISED)

Despair. Fear. Hopelessness. It’s hard for most of us to imagine the torrents of turbulent thoughts that swirl through the minds of those who have fallen victim to the lure of drugs, mesmerized by the promise of a temporary respite from a life where sleep is elusive and even daytime is filled with terrifying darkness. As substance abuse continues to shatter the innocence of the Jewish community, taking the lives of more than 370 young men and women over the past two years, the war against drugs wages on, a valiant battle to turn the tide by raising awareness and providing life saving assistance to those in need.

In an all new music video presented by Amudim and produced by Sparks Next in association with Olam Media, DeScribe reaches out with the hard hitting Set Me Free, a powerful look at the world of addiction and the all-consuming need to escape reality, often with tragic consequences. An upbeat promise of hope, Set Me Free is a reminder that even those who feel trapped by addiction can take control of their lives and liberate themselves by seeking professional help.

“It’s hard for anyone who gets sucked into the world of addiction to imagine that there is a way out, even when they hit rock bottom, but our caseworkers are on call around the clock and are ready to save lives,” said Rabbi Zvi Gluck, director of Amudim which has serviced over 3,800 people, including 1,800 suffering from addiction, over the past three and a half years. “We have lost too many people, shed too many tears and seen too many families destroyed by grief.”

A project eight months in the making, Set Me Free was intensely personal for both DeScribe, a recovering addict who attempted to take his own life on more than one occasion, and for Daniel Finkelman, who co-directed the video with Aharon Orian. Having seen firsthand how a life of drugs can often be a prelude to suicide, Finkelman knew that despite the sensitivities involved, the time had come to address the issue head on, giving hope to those whose very existence seems too much to bear. A stunning look at a world where all seems lost and whispers of death beckon enticingly from the shadows, Set Me Free is a lifeline to those in need, letting them know that they are not alone and that help is just a phone call away.

  1. Thank you TLS for raising the awareness!
We must unite as a community to help those in need and those before they become in need.
Besides the amazing organizations I believe we all need some tools to help out from within.

  2. Everybody agrees that we as a community have serious issues to deal with, but so few have the courage to actually go against the senseless trends.

  3. I agree wholeheartedly Amudim is a great organization and they are doing great things. This video does not belong on a this site. Ends dont always justify the means. Yes we need to continue to bring awareness to this issue but posting graphic goyish music videos on a sight like this is not the right thing.

  4. The Mashgiach zt”l used to repeat the medrash that the Chashmonaim were spurred to take action by a ‘shocking’ argument from their sister Yehudis. “Shema’uni achai ve’ami…” Sometimes a shock can jolt good people to take action against a seemingly unchangeable yet difficult situation. A small light can overcome much darkness. May we be zoche to the geulah sheleima.

  5. It’s one thing to discuss these issues as a community. However to post this video and say she restricted when do many kids can access is, not a good idea.

  6. Where does this video belong if not the scoop, should we just put it on YouTube where most of the target audience will not see it? There is a major problem out there and it is time for major change. #undertherug.

    • you tube might be a good idea. cant say for sure more religious watch youtube then you realize. whats the best way to protect our children. whats the best way to reach them once they are in danger/trouble g d forbid.

  7. Yes, the video is shocking and it is frightening. But guess what… so is the world and reality that we live in today. When we say we have to spread awareness that doesn’t just mean that adults should know what’s going on around them but children have to know as well that there are bad things in the world and we as parents have to show them all the love that we possibly can and to teach them and educate them.
This video most definitely belongs on the Lakewood communities site because unfortunately tragedies are happening in our community right under our noses and we keep saying “it doesn’t belong here, it doesn’t belong there”…. it belongs everywhere!
Oh , @fred I’m not really sure what makes this music video goyish. Someone is dressed a little different than you?? He talks a little bit different than you?? Stop driving people away and realize that people are crying out for your help.

  8. Thank you for updating the warning from age restricted to viewer discretion. If you choose to watch it be prepared for scenes you will hopefully never have anything to do with.

  9. A lot of people think that this issue is exclusively to those who have left the path of Yiddishkit and now they’re in the pits. Unfortunately it’s alive and active even in frum families or either parents or their children are also abusers mostly due to tremendous amount of depression and pressure

  10. I am sad it took so long for the community to wake-up & see
    all the pain,drugs, suicide.

  11. goyish music? as if today’s chasuna music is better. Just attended one where guitar playing was from a well known ben cham. Next. Inappropriate for the scoop? Do you know how to read? The article said people have DIED. This organization saves lives. Pikuach nefesh pushes away all but three aveiros. Your wanting to live in a bubble is not one of them. Video was totally appropriate. and if needed, there should be hundreds more like it. We want to save Jewish lives at all costs. Complainers are over sensitive and need to ask Daas Torah before posting such nonsense. Scoop is to be commended for having the guts to post this. Please don’t take it down. Well Done!

  12. To all the comments that said “it doesn’t belong here”. Keep living under a rock and this crisis will get worse. People don’t like to admit that we have a HUGE problem in the community and Tzvi Gluck and Amudim are one of the only organizations that are actually doing something about it instead of denying that there’s a problem.
