MMCSC thanks Lakewood community for successful Blood Drive; Will help save over 60 lives

Last Thursday, 64 individuals responded to RWJBarnabas Health’s request to help save lives and volunteered to donate blood at Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus (MMCSC).

Due to recent bad weather and the wide spread flu epidemic, there was a void in the local blood supply, however, that was alleviated last week when MMCSC employees and Lakewood community members stepped in to make difference.

“Because of their generosity and selflessness, 48 units of blood were donated and 16 units of fresh frozen plasma were manufactured, which will save over 60 lives,” the hospital said.

They added, “RWJBarnabas Health and Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus would like to thank Bikur Cholim and The Lakewood Scoop for their continuous efforts to spread this life saving message throughout Lakewood and the surrounding region.”

Another blood drive is being planned for July, and hours will be extended into the evening to accommodate requests for later hours.
