Update from LSTA regarding Thursday busing

Rabbi Krawiec from the LSTA provided TLS with the following update regarding Thursday busing:

“We at the LSTA don’t take the decision to cancel busing lightly. We understand the impact this can have on schools, teachers and parents. The safety of students and drivers is our top priority and any decision made is done with the most up to date information and with full cooperation of Township officials, the Lakewood Police Department, Department of Public Works and representation of the Mosdos.

“In preparation for tomorrow morning’s, schedule, we have been advised that the Departments of Public Works has a full crew on the streets working through the night trying to make the roads drivable for the morning. In addition, all our vendors are doing whatever they can to prepare for tomorrow morning’s transportation.

“During expected snow storms, we wait until as late as possible to make a decision so we can have the most up to date information with safety being the most important aspect of any such decision. As of now, we have a conference call scheduled for 5:00 AM with representatives of the various agencies and will update all after that call of the tomorrow’s transportation schedule. Any decision will always be guided with the safety of our students as our only priority.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.”

  1. Safety is their favorite word. Look all Schools should of been opened today with a early dismissal. It was totally am safe to driv than!!

    • your right in the end there could have been school. But just imagine if the main part started earlier and conditions were like they are now.

  2. This morning nothing was updated until 7 am and that was the first I heard from calling my two kids hotlines. Can u please post as soon as a dexiaion is made after 5 am so we parents can have time to get our kids ready in the morning

  3. Hatzlocha rabbah on making the big decision on tom bussing. And thanks for always trying to do the best for our children..

  4. Thank you to all the agencies involved for everything you do for us!!! There will always be complainers, but there are those that DO appreciate all the effort that goes in to making these decisions! Hope you catch some sleep!!

  5. The roads are terrible, especially the side roads, and it’s still snowing badly. Please take in account the teachers who have to travel to drive to work. I agree, there should have been school today, but tomorrow should definitely be cancelled. All the surrounding areas are cancelled such as Brick, Toms River, Jackson, Manchester, etc…

  6. Amazing

All day For every four comments, three are complaints

I’m sure all could have done a better job predicting the path of the storm …

In an hour the roads went from passable to terrible. It would have been impossible to pull together bussing and dismissal (or parent pickups) safely in a short time

Why can’t we all stop complaining and appreciate that not everything in life is predictable and perfect.

Sometimes the aibishter gives us challenges because we need them…

  7. I agree School should have been open today and kids should have school tomorrow too and there is no excuse for not have school. Pesach vacation is very close by. It unfortunately unfair for parents and teachers who missable today. We must keep school open. The busing must run tomorrow morning without delay.

  8. I am a regular working parent of school aged kids and I appreciate that safety is the number one concern thats the way it should be the roads were very slippery this morning before the snow started getting heavy it would’ve been dangerous to have the buses out today. It was already decreed how much money u would make on rosh hashana snow days are part of life I can’t believe how many r complaining there’s no school it’s not the schools job to raise ur kids so u could work! It’s pathetic how ppl can’t handle a snow day off! its much more important that our kids r safe

  9. i agree. The LSTA is doing the absolute right thing. They should have cancelled today and should cancel tomorrow. The childrens safety is and should be their utmost priority. I had eight kids home today and we lived. You do what you gotta do. They are your kids and deal with them. The schools and LSTA cant take any chances that are unsafe just because some people have no patients to be home with their kids. Its not easy at this time before Pesach but you do what you gotta do.

  10. I for one did not want my children to leave the house today. Coming home from school yesterday was dangerous enough. Yes, I’m a working mom and so does my husband work. We had a great day working at home – with the kids. My husband is still putting in his hours now. The kids are all the more excited for Pesach now that they helped all day. Looking forward to another great snow day at home with the kids tomorrow.

  11. The reason why there was no school today was because no one knew how bad it would be. Its easy to look back and say there should have been school, but people cannot predict the future!
The safety of our children is of utmost importance, and you don’t want to take any chances.
Does the fact that all schools were open in boro park make it safer for our kids here in lakewood? No! Who cares what they did in Boro Park!

  12. TO A FRIEND!!! Boro Park has a much better and more effective salting and plowing system. They also do not have all the small side streets that there is in Lakewood

  13. Even an hour delay ,if necessary, is better than a total cancel. For the girls, many are scheduled to be off Friday. Tomorrow would be the only day before Pesach for them to get their Haggadah etc…..

  14. Hey D are you married?? Do you work ??? Do you know how hard it working with kids at work ?? Do you know how bored kids are ?? Have you see one school on rt 88 was open today.. do you know at 5pm they’re dismissing children home. I was very amazed about that. Yes we parents don’t get it. You don’t know how isn’t so simple. Maybe you should realize we don’t your comments. I provided the great evidence that school should been open.

  15. It’s funny nobody takes in to consideration about the teachers or the bus drivers who travel to work it’s bad enough on a good day with nurse now but when there’s snow all the crazies come out how about giving the drivers a break safety is number one priority so stop complaining about not having school today and worry about closing school tomorrow to be safe !!!

  16. Keep up the good work and ty for your care and concern
Don’t let a few sour apples deter you from all the great work you’re doing
They will always look for something to complain about. Nebach , it’s there nature
    B’ hatzlocha

  17. This was utterly ridiculous, Plus I am sure there wont be school tomorrow as well. As for the buses, I am sure most parents would have gladly driven there kids to school. I would have taken all my neighbors kids as well, instead they were running around my house all day. The only person who showed up to my children’s school today was the administrator who kept calling me and bugging me for tuition. The good thing was i kept telling him I cant hear you there are to many kids running around.(I hope he doesn’t read the scoop, I also hope my shver does).

  18. PLOW PLOW PLOW PLOW PLOW! I havnt seen one plow yet on my street today! use our taxpayer money to PLOW so we can all get to work and make money to pay taxes!

  19. Im loving it that we can clean for Pesach and have free without scool work on our heads!!!i loooove snow days!!!

  20. The snow will be done by 4 AM , from 4 to 730 there’s enough time for the roads to be cleared by plows and they are already starting to fill up and get ready to go so I don’t see any reason for their not being bussing tomorrow or at least an hour delayed busing

  21. Haters gonna hate hate hate hate

Rabbi krawiac is your hero and get used to that. Keep hating and see where it gets you In life. So meaningful. Amazing kiddush hashem. How about get up and be supportive if your agencies working sleepless nights for you. But no. You complain. You make your mamma proud

  22. To all you people who know exactly when it’s gonna start snowing and exactly how safe the streets are gonna be at exactly what time, please start your own school and this way you’ll never have to close unnecessarily and maybe all the schools will start following what you do just like all the schools now follow whatever a ‘certain’ school here In town does. Follow the leader is a fun game. Can everyone get over the fact that your kids missed one day of school (I’m sure they’ll give you a 0.5% refund on your tuition if you Ask for it) and don’t worry about your kids knowing enough about pesach. You’ll be rolling your eyes anyway when your 5 yr old takes 15 min. To say the Ma Nishtana and your starving. Yes and the roads before the snow were very slick this morning, school busses don’t Have traction as well as your fancy 4×4.

  23. I don’t get the whole thing. I’m 26 years old and grew up in lakewood, went to yeshiva ktana. All I can say is through all my years in Elementary school, we had maybe three cancelations due to snow. So can someone please explain how they figured out how to get us to school back than, but now it would seem theirs an average of 5 to 10 cancelations a year?! And BTW they took precautions back than as well.

  24. Safety is your concern. Why are you having school today Thursday March 22. You want the busses out in this mess with your children on them. Rethink it people

  25. There’s- there is ex: There’s my long lost mitten!
Theirs – that which belongs to them ex: That is their snowman. It’s theirs!!
They’re- They are ex: They’re all disgruntled about having a snow day.

  26. I want to give a huge shout out to the Lakewood department of public works! The streets in my neighborhood look amazing! They PLOWED! And I don’t see any huge mountains in any intersections either. Way to go!
