Suicidal man prompts massive response from Lakewood SWAT Team, other agencies

A man threatening suicide in Lakewood prompted a full-blown response from law enforcement, officials confirmed to TLS.Officers responded to Buckingham Drive home around 10:30PM after receiving a call from a friend of the man who threatened to harm himself.

“Upon arrival, Officers attempted to make contact with the Buckingham Drive resident, however, those attempts were unsuccessful, prompting the activation of the Lakewood Police Department Special Response Team, The Detective Bureau, The Ocean County Prosecutors Office as well as Crisis Negotiator Detective Pete Aakjer,” Detective Liutenant Greg Staffordsmith told TLS.

“While Officers secured the scene, Det. Aakjer was able to establish a rapport with the 58-year-old Lakewood man by phone,” Staffordsmith said. After several lengthy conversations, the man agreed to exit his residence.

He was taken into custody without incident and transported to a local hospital for further evaluation.

  1. So, this is why not a single police officer could not be sent to stop a loud party (Hispanic music blaring and people screaming) at12:30 AM in a residential neighborhood?

  2. I don’t know if that was the reason but if many of the townships resources were being used for this gentleman than I think his life is more important than your hour of sleep don’t you think? Thanks to our great pd dept for saving a person that is obviously in a crisis.
