  1. Prevent traffic from getting worse by not letting any new streets made unless it’s a grid and open to another street. Not like all complexes of route 9 that make you come to the 9 to get out

    Thank you

  2. Goldie,
I’d add: … as what’s happening now to some new developments along rt 88, east county line rd. and lanes mill rd.

Give some time and rt 88 and county line will be looking like rt. 9. As it is the traffic is terrible. I can’t imagine how it’ll look once all those houses are occupied.

  3. Stop wasting money on unnecessary stuff (like removing circle at Oak & Albert and putting in a light there) and start spending money instead on things residents actually ask for, like lights at intersections that are actually busy.

Also, stop the insane and dangerous building, despite it being a cash cow for you. safety first.

  4. investigate all traffic lights and make the proper changes to keep traffic flowing better especially on county roads. keep nagging the county to better serve us

  5. Is this a rhetorical question?!

Stop building! We all know the answer, it’s just that the people in power couldn’t care less…

  6. Why are you even asking this question? you know the answer from all the other polls. Has anything been done about this? Are you expecting a different answer? WHY would you expect a different answer! Have you heard a reply to your previous poll as to why nothing has been done about this one major lasting and ongoing issue? Your poll fell on deaf ears! There is one thing that Lakewood wants, when there is a plan in place to rectify it, you can send another poll.

  7. realign the rt 9 chateau drive intersection with evergreen across the street and get the light put in. I can’t believe that the town gave the CO to that shopping center with out the traffic light installed.

  8. There are so many 4 way stop signs and so many people who don’t use them correctly. My suggestion is to make a campaign – be it a flyer or short video – what the rules are and how to use them.

  9. How about repainting the stripes on Clifton Avenue, especially for the left turn lanes. And then having a uniformed officer at random locations along Clifton to ensure people do not “block the box.”

  10. please please put a light or 4 way stop sign on the corner of Miller and New Central!!!! It id do dangerous with so many accidents and dangerous for pedestrians.

  11. Allow more housing and stop all the crazy rules of building that all the developers get around anyways so only reg people lose from them.

  12. Freddy…the light at Oak and Albert is a necessity during rush hour….school opening and closing. I wouldnthink call that a waste. I think the traffic circle was.more of a waste because it confused people.

  13. Have the police crack down like never before on the dangerous driving and parking practices of drivers in Lakewood. Do everything within the law to make sure people in Lakewood learn how to drive like the rest of humanity. The current situation is a disgrace.

    • Note to people reading this – especially from out of town: Take things with a grain of salt; people tend to exaggerate to bring attention to a matter.
And, even though the person may argue that it is true, most people DO drive safely. Just sometimes people are in a rush. It’s important to leave time, or to carpool, or use delivery services etc; B”H there are more & more of that. As the saying goes, necessity is the mother of invention!

  14. You are doing a GREAT job!!!
    Just keep it up!
Lakewood has a great team in public works, police department, etc.
Last but not least we have a great Mayor!

  15. Goldy said it perfectly: stop all the building that has no engineering rhyme or reason. How is it okay to create a street out of an acre of land, where you can build 12 townhouses on, yet my request to renovate my kitchen was rejected… Because the floor joists are overspanned!!

  16. 2 solutions to ease the traffic problems here in lkwd
1)streets should alternate and become 1 way streets as in new york

    2) we currently allow parking on both sides of a street that’s besides 2 way traffic it would ease the flow of traffic if we would at least take away parking from one side of the street would gain another lane

  17. Widen route 9 and stop playing politics. Also put more traffic light around town to slow down the traffic and help reduce accidents.

  18. STOP THE BUILDING…..PLEASE!!!!
Lower the property taxes considerably for anyone living on Social Security or over the age of 65 , not by a measly $250, but by at least 50%.

  19. Maintain the roads before they crumble. Good and decent roads are not being maintained and are allowed to totally crumble. Seems it would be a lot cheaper to use sealant liberally and prevent small fissures from developing into all out broken roads.

  20. South Clifton (Southbound) should be restripped to 2 lanes (eliminating the 4 parking spots there). Clifton ave intersecting Main/88 (Southbound)- right turning lane should be changed to straight, which would mean you have 2 lanes crossing the 88. That would alleviate a great deal of stress at all the ave going into the 88. Very easy suggestion, with huge benefits.

  21. Please put turning arrows signals for cars travelling on the 9,turning into either Hurley ave, or Central ave. Just as you have signals for the cars traveling on central and Hurley turning onto the 9.
    Thank you.

  22. New rule for builders when you dig up the street to put in pipes for new houses you must repave length across the whole street for the small streets and to half the street for the wide streets and 15 feet the width so there are no potholes as there’s is now where they make small holes and pave over and it causes potholes

  23. How about a raised monorail that runs along the Central avenue corridor and then cuts south along rt 9 to rt 70 and one more that starts at Raintree ,running along County Line and curving south on rt 9 to Central.
That should eliminate 80% of all traffic headaches in Lakewood

  24. why was a four way light put on Albert ave and oak street when this kind of light should be on oak and new Hampshire ave. I do not think people used their brains in this situation.

  25. There are many fantastic things about Lakewood!

Having said that, a huge improvement, which is vital and necessary is STOP CONSTRUCTION!!!! And make builders pay for traffic improvement and road design expenses.

  26. No more duplexes. There was a purpose when a few years ago they were allowed but at this point they are causing tremendous problems

  27. Community campaign that Stop signs actually demand you stop under penalty of law.

Too many vehicles run stop signs including school buses.

  28. While I would love to stop the building I know it’s unrealistic. But at least stop issuing variances to developers so the building doesn’t turn this town into a crowded metropolis. At least make the developers leave enough room for parking! And at least don’t let the developers get away with ignoring & bypassing zoning & other relevant laws!!

  29. Right turning lane on southeast direction of Cedar Bridge Ave to turn onto Martin Luther Dr. Everyone is cutting through the parking lane to do it anyway.

        • why do you think there is aerosol spraying in Lakewood? i heard someone say that and checked out the sky a few times. noticed alot of white lines in the sky (not natural clouds) is that what you are referring to? does anyone know why there are so many planes above lakewood?
does anyone have any proof that it is aerosol?

  30. The BMG idea is a great, easy suggestion, without the township getting involved.
To the township, thank you for all the good you do for us, we appreciate it. But…
    1. Traffic- Can you please widen the larger streets to ease traffic Cross St- 2 lanes, route 9- 2 lanes will help a lot. Hope St
    2. Parks – there are almost no parks south of James/Pine street and with all the new developments and duplex’s going up, with very small playgrounds, some larger parks would be great for our kids and the aesthetics of the town. Prospect street, oak and vine etc thank you

  31. Why aren’t you publishing my comment? If you really want the truth out there, post my comment. traffic studies are the root of this problem in Lakewood. These studies will determine what building should get approved, and which aren’t safe for Lakewood.

  32. Open the shoulder on Central Avenue eastbound from Sunset Avenue to a traffic lane. It is anyways a No Parking Lane. Have left turn signals on Kennedy Boulevard and County Line Road at the route 9 intersections and also Pine Street and James intersections with the 9. Open the Turning Lanes earlier on Route 9 southbound at Central Avenue and similar intersections

    • and please please close caranetta’s entrance which feeds into the light at route 9 and central. creates a mess in the mornings! and really not fair for ppl to cut the line waiting for light especially when someone cuts in to make a left and holds up the whole line cuz they can’t get in. grrrrrrrrrrhhhhhh!!!!! i drive there every morning a literally go NUTS!!

  33. Establish a serious “red tape ripper” connection between town/city of lakewood, ocean county, and the state of nj with regards to the road department so our roads can actually be fixed and corrected as an issue gets worse and not once it’s so overwhelming that we just resign from taking care.
This should include a normal website where someone can post a pothole or road fisssure and track and see when it gets corrected and have a rating for how dangerous that pothole or road hazard is 1-10…
Once you have that connection then use that to improve living conditions by adding parks, removing ocean county garage from in middle of Raintree and maybe put a park instead, have weekly classes on TLS teaching driving skills and rules perhaps in collaboration with city county and or state and maybe you can get someone to sponsor ads,
Have a food store Department where you can enforce the expiration dates of items, all prices posted, and again a website where People can post there issues and track verification of fixes
(Of course you can have a moderator like yourself make sure no one abuses these platforms)
Oh and attention all those with the building issues, we saw it already the first comment, maybe next time you make a poll TLS can moderate one time each issue.
    Thanks

  34. One suggestion: Three way light at James and Williams like Prospect and Williams.

    Green from Northbound Williams with:

Red Left Arrow, Green /Red from James Eastbound.
Red with Green Left Arrow from James Westbound which is simultaneous Red with Green Arrow Williams Northbound.
NOW. Time it so the traffic flows. Put cat and mouse unmarked cars WIlliams to enforce the 25MPH speed limit. Or a marked car with lights. So the cop bashers won’t complain about “funding”. Safety First.

  35. we warned you about this, and now its finally happening! CROSS st is turning into a parking lot, there are no turning lanes and anytime someone needs to turn the entire cross street comes to a halt! Cant we get some intelligent people to run the roads of this town??

  36. Widen the busier streets, such as Route 88 and Ridge Ave, which will only get even worse traffic/congestion as newer developments come online.

The Township can also use more Paddle-ball courts. There aren’t enough, and they’re not too costly.

  37. The township should stop vacating paper streets. This does not benefit Lakewood as a whole. It only benefits A few select individuals, and it’s not fair to the rest of Lakewood because the few streets that remain open are much much more crowded and as a result causes major traffic.

  38. Please make a left turning arrow from cedarbridge to clover and a left arrow from county line to ridge ave and another from rt 9 both ways going to Hurley and to central
Also a right arrow from south Clifton to 88 (while left arrow the other way goes)

  39. enforce traffic laws and stop people that drive like wild animals. get them off the streets. Anyone who passes school bus with red lights looses their licencse for 6 month period. No plea deals on this. Next Parking. Do not permit double parking this is not ny. tow the cars!

  40. 1. Move all rain to the outskirts of town.
    2. Abolish illness, leaving just enough to be able to take off work now and then.
    3. Force radio Kol Berama to play music that people want to hear.
    4. Make a ‘night out against crime’ twice a week, with free food. Maybe every Thursday so I don’t have to cook supper.
    5. Give tax abatements for people who have chickens in their back yards. That will eliminate the snooze button addicts, helping people daven and get to work on time.
    6. Instead of giving out driving tickets, incentivze people to ‘self report’ driving infractions by publicizing their names on the ‘good list’.
    7. Start a campaign for people to say Hi to random strangers on the other side of the street that they are walking on. They should also inform them of the weather situation on their side of the street, should they want to cross.

  41. Open the grid. Use eminent domain as necessary. Eighth from princeton to Monmouth; over the tracks – Princeton to Park from 5th through 9th; Arlington to Pine; Albert to Vine, etc.

  42. i believe a few intelligent people (not big shots with lights and antennas all over their cars)from each area that truly understand the traffic issues of their specific area should be appointed as a board that represents their small area. The boards should meet with the officials a few times a year to discuss their local traffic issues and what solutions they feel need to be implemented. For example anyone that lives near pine and rt 9 would know everyday tractor trailers trying to turn onto Pine from rt 9 get jammed up there as the side walk needs to be trimmed off a few feet. People that don’t live there would never know about this issue that causes much traffic a few times a day…there is no one that knows the area like the people that live there and observe what goes on, on a daily basis

  43. 1) Any new construction (shul, school, office or store) shouldn’t be allowed unless there is a sufficient parking lot included in the plans.
    2) Fix all the potholes & weirdly paved streets so card aren’t always swerving randomly & getting tons of flat tires.
    3) Encourage motorcycles/mopeds, they are much much cheaper to run, If there is awareness they are relatively safe, & if enough people switch over it will reduce congestion & travel times immeasurably.
