The “U Drive. U Text. U Pay.” campaign is officially over.
The campaign ran between April 1 – April 21, but was not funded in Lakewood this year – which means the Lakewood Police Department did not designate extra units for the campaign.
Police Chief Greg Meyer tells TLS approximately 100 summonses were issued during the campaign.
The campaign targeted distracted driving – primarily texting and talking on the cell phone, but summonses were also issued for seat belt and other violations, the Chief said.
Huh? Why would these campaigns need additional outside funding they’re a cash cow as it is?
they are not a cash cow they are lifesavers.I hope it never effects you but it can.be careful don’t drive and text
Maybe the State Police can go help Mueller with his investigation. Seems like they need some help with that one. It’ll keep them busy with nonsense as it is anyway.
You fly, you spray, you should be locked up…
Sadly the authorities don’t care about toxic chemicals being dumped in our atmosphere everyday…
maybe one day people will wake up…
until then just don’t text and drive..
It’s hard to believe that there are adults that think these kinds of crack downs are a joke.
Only 100 summonses? You could stand on any corner of Clifton Avenue downtown and see 100 violations in just one day.
Try one hour
I stand corrected.
# 2 and # 5 are very right. Its not a joke. Whoever wants to can be mad at me. I dont care but this campaign should go on forever because it does save lives, How did we survive without this modern technology I am sure there were much less car accidents, Like my husband ALAV HASHOLEM used to say CASE CLOSED, Good night Lakewood sleep well,
Out of 100 vehicle fatalities, 90 are caused by talking and texting. 10 by driving while intoxicated.
When will they crack down on police officers talking and texting on their cell phones?
Reply to all;
I’m not bothered by the campaign.
What baffles me is that townships seek state funding to give out a zillion tickets!
Please don’t respond by saying how important the campaign is then you missed my point.
