Yehudah’s chess club, founded by Lakewood resident Yehudah Zolty, 12, has secured a new venue.
Yehudah’s passion for the game inspired him to create a club where boys ages nine and older can compete against each other for some good wholesome fun.
The club quickly outgrew of the Zolty home and a search for a larger venue was on. Yehudah thought to reach out to a favorite coffee shop, French Press to see if they would be able to accommodate. When owner, Rob Betesh was contacted he did not hesitate to welcome the club to his Kennedy Boulevard location.
“The club, which will also feature a tournament component, is open to all boys ages nine and up who have the chess spirit,” says Yehudah’s father. “Registration is very limited, so if you’d like to join, please contact the organizer promptly. Club will try to meet weekly. There is no fee to join!”
This Thursday’s session will be held at The French Press from 7:00-8:30 (French Press will stay open to public through the session. They usually close at 7:00. Food/drinks available for purchase.)
The club is also looking for some assistance. If you’re a chess pro or know of someone who can volunteer to give a hand with tips and coaching, please contact them at once.
