‪UPDATED 4:25PM: Search underway for 2 missing boys in Lakewood [BREAKING – FOUND!] (VIDEO & PHOTOS)

A search is underway for two boys missing in Lakewood.

The boys, brothers, said to be approximately 7 and 8 years old, were seen last near their home about 8:30 AM this morning. They were supposed to be on their way to the Lakewood Cheder.

Lakewood police, including detectives, are searching. A K9 was called in to assist.

Developing.

UPDATE: Chaveirim has joined the search.

UPDATE 12:45PM: The boys names are Tzvi and Yecheskel, one is wearing a green shirt and one a pink shirt.

BREAKING UPDATE: 1:03PM: Kids were found by a Lakewood Detective in the forest not far from their home.

UPDATE 4:25 PM: According to the latest information available, the boys may have been hiding in the forest all the time they were missing, and may have been afraid to come out of the forest (as earlier reported on TLS).

According to a school official TLS spoke with, the school was contacted approximately 10:30 AM, as one of the parents felt the children may not have made the bus.

When school officials were called, police were immediately notified, and a thorough search was conducted throughout the school grounds. The bus companies were also immediately contacted.

Because of the children’s ages and the extreme heat, authorities immediately reached out for a K9 unit to assist in the search.

At approximately 1:03 PM, Detective Mike Cavallo was reportedly searching the area when he spotted the pink and green shirts in the forest.

The boys were sweaty and hot when they were found, and immediately given water and taken inside.

UPDATE: See video below the moment the children were found and walked out of the forest.

  1. if the police can release clear pictures of the children so that anyone who sees them can identify them. That way you can have all of Lakewood helping.

  2. The more info provided the better the public can assist in the search. Do we have names, what area were they last seen in, what route were they expected to take to get to school…?

  3. It’s also important to post as much detail surrounding the situation in order to counter any mis-information that occurs as a result of third party information

  4. EVERY SCHOOL MUST CHECK EVERY BUS FOR MISSING BOYS.

THEY COULD’VE GOTTEN ON WRONG BUS AND TOO SCARED TO GET OFF AT WRONG SCHOOL

  5. B’H they were found! And B’H the school/parents somehow realized that they were missing before they were supposed to return home. My son’s yeshiva doesn’t verify attendance. The fist time he was going to be home sick I called in to report his absence and the secretary seemed totally shocked – she apparently never had a parent call to report an absence before. Now I just daven that he arrives to school safely every day since I have no way of knowing if he didn’t – until he is supposed to arrive back home. SCHOOLS SHOULD BE CHECKING ATTENDANCE DAILY AND NOTIFYING PARENTS IF THEIR CHILD DID NOT ARRIVE AT SCHOOL AND THE PARENT DID NOT REPORT THE ABSENCE!!!

  6. Someone,

Noone has a very valid point which I think developers should use in the future in order to obtain a variance to build a development. We will never have children in Lakewood lost in a forest ever again.

    • You are as bad as he is- this was a very serious situation that B’H had a good ending- not the time and place to make your stupid jokes

I didn’t say it wasn’t a valid point. It’s just not the time or place to post such comments. A family and a community are recovering from a traumatic event, political comments/satire aren’t warranted here.

  8. Growing up my school strongly enforced the policy. If your child was not going to school for whatever reason you had to notify the office. After attendance the office would check which absent children had not called in and would call the parents to verify. It is beyond me why this isn’t the policy of every school nationwide.

  9. I think what we have to learn from this story is. Schools should check Attendance and contact if not there. But most importantly it’s cant be that kids should ever be scared to go home. The safest and most secure place is home and if a kid is scared then we have a real problem. Schools should stress this.

  10. Glad they were found but they are rather young to be left alone to get on a bus. If someone were with them they would have known they didn’t get on the bus

  11. they were learning about rabbi shimon bar yochai and went to see if they could find a cave. or maybe wwII and wanted to join the partisans. or maybe they went looking to do hisbodedus !!!

  12. We have some wonderful and selfless individuals in Lakewood whom we need to be very thankful for. The LPD as well as LCSW, chaveirim, Hatzolah, K9 forces and many other individuals who are always on the scene ready to help in any given situation. Hats off to you all!!

  13. Bnos Brocha has an attendance system that a text message goes out to the parrents in the event children don’t show up to school. Bnos Brocha is always ahead of everyone else!!!!! We love you and thank you.
    A proud parent

  14. Parents if your children are 7 and 9,you should be walking them to the bus stop. This way you know if they got on the bus. I am a bus driver, many mornings I see little children waiting by themselves, not a good situation. This way as a parent you know that they got on the bus.just saying. It is your responsibility
