BREAKING: Lakewood BOE threatened with lawsuit over LEA President status change; Attorney Inzelbuch in 2017 claimed she was paid for not working

The Lakewood Board of Education has been threatened with a lawsuit if it moves ahead with a resolution to remove the LEA President from her full time-release status, TLS has learned.

In 2017, before being rehired, Michael Inzelbuch claimed LEA President Kimberlee Shaw was to receive a paid union release, at a time when teachers were faced with layoffs, and the District was in a massive deficit.

In 2017, Inzelbuch stated, “Nothing against the Union, but can you believe this is being done again without transparency as required? Sure it could be legal, but when the Board is laying off more than 100 staff who work, the Board is about to agree to allow a teacher to be paid full time for not working. What type of message does that send?”

This afternoon, TLS received documents showing a lawsuit is pending, should the Board of Education change her status.

“Attached please find copies of papers we intend to file challenging the Lakewood Board of Education’s resolution removing Kim Shaw from full-time release status and returning her to a classroom,” the law firm representing Shaw stated.  “As per your request, we are providing the papers 3 days in advance of filing. Accordingly, if the Board does not rescind or commit to rescind within a short time period, we will file these papers on Friday.”

Developing.

  1. I agree with Michael.
Never understood how she gets paid as much as she does for the work she does (not) do!

Very few of us were actually helped by the union when needed and she certainly has an agenda. A big waste of money for us.

    A Frustrated staff member

  2. We’re is the lawsuit? Why is it not in the article? While I may agree with Michaels frustration he agrees that it’s legal. How can he do something that he admits is illegal?

  3. It’s funny how ppl say she doesn’t work when she probably works more hours & days than any teacher in the district!!! If she wee in the classroom it would cost the district more money getting substitutes to cover for her as she is pulled into numerous meetings to defend staff members for the things they do that warrants them to be represented!!! Walks day in we shoes then tell me she doesn’t work!! Haha what a joke!!!

  4. Wow wish I could have a paycheck without working.
We pay her salary and get nothing!!!!!
On the other hand maybe we are better off without her in the school . With such an attitude who wants her near a school

  5. According to the article, she is on paid UNION leave. that only happens as per a contract. the same way that a Union contract can make someone get overtime after 7 hours per day or any other union clause.

  6. To tell the truth she does not represent her own teachers well, considering there one of the lowest paid teachers in the State. She does not serve students and teachers alike.

  7. She does not stand up for the union members. Teachers have told me that they needed help and she was nowhere to be seen.
Why is the district paying for the union rep? Shouldn’t the union dues cover the union rep’s salary?

    • the president of the LEA has in the past been paid 1/2 salary by BOE, 1/2 salary by Union. In the past the president was pulled out of class consistently by the Administration to deal with union issues and subs were put in their place. This as i understand it was agreed upon quite a few years ago by the BOE/LEA.

  8. I hate to make the comparison
But it seems like the lkwd board of ed
Is constantly in the news with one issue or another
Just like our president every day a new charges ,a new faux
    Pas

  9. I worked withe her and she does and always did nothing, she was in hiding. We can’t keep paying ppl. Lake that. She should be fired immediately.

  10. Funny how everyone says stuff but no one puts a name to it. The union pays a chunk of her salary so put her back in the classroom and the board pays more! It’s simple the board is saving money in lawsuits because it was micheal who was suing them and two he’s trying to limit her power. Those that say they worked with her and she did nothing are lying flat out.

  11. It would be best for the union and everyone else if she would resign. Never does anything for us, when was the last time she stood up and spoke for us. But now she will spend our union money on a suit that only effects her.

  12. I tend to find commenters criticizing the BOE more credible when they can spell and are grammatically correct.
Slight slack courtesy considered for auto-correct and TLS having cut and paste set to off. Having said that, don’t get started on unions. There are many offensive words regarding them that I can spell very well.

  13. To Little, I doubt you are even a member but that being said if you are you definitely do not pay attention, go to BOE meetings, or did something so bad enough not to be able to get union help.
