Lakewood Gives With Heart – Lakewood Gives for Ahavas Tzedakah

[COMMUNICATED] Did you know that 1 in 20 families in our community receive support from Ahavas Tzedakah? This is a staggering number that unfortunately keeps on growing. That means that each one of us knows at least one family who is currently being assisted by Ahavas Tzedakah.

With a $1.7 Million annual budget assisting 743 LOCAL families consisting of 1,383 adults and 4,354 children, the need is real. 84 single parents rely on Ahavas Tzedakah to make ends meet

and so many more with other needs and circumstances. To date, Ahavas Tzedakah has helped over 1000 families, but, there are still 40 families currently awaiting assistance.

We need your help!

Can we say no to a mother who remains in critical condition after childbirth whose husband spends his days taking care of their large family and can no longer work? Or should we say no to the vibrant young father of six who suffered a debilitating injury and cannot work? How about to the many widows and single parents who struggle each month to make ends meet? The stories are endless.

Ahavas Tzedakah ensure that everyone receiving assistance is valued and is able to maintain their dignity. This is a critical component in the Mitzvah of Tzedakah. Those going through a rough patch have enough to worry about. Many times their egos are shattered and self worth diminished. It is our job to not only provide monetary resources, but to provide emotional ones as well. Our unique way of providing for these families does just that. We call this Giving With Heart.

This system has been very successful, not only in helping those in need for the time being, but ensuring a better future. Since Pesach 2016, 115 families were able to remove themselves from the list and manage on their own.

On Monday, July 9, Ahavas Tzedakah will be holding its 8th Annual Dinner. This event will be like none other before. The evening will feature delectable cuisine and an inspirational program. The one and only Rav Yissachar Frand will deliver the keynote address, followed by a riveting panel discussion titled: Raising Healthy Children Today; Physically, Spiritually, and Emotionally, featuring Dr. Reuven Shanik, R’ Mordechai Weinberger LCSW, and Rav Mordechai Kamenetzky. The discussion will be moderated by R’ Elchonon Schwartz LCSW of BINA and will be open to all at  9:45 PM followed by a buffet.

  1. I still have no idea why people are helping others in EY when there are families in Lakewood that can’t keep their heads above water.
