Paskesz Candy to temporarily suspend distribution of Sour Worx candy after complaint of irritation

Paskesz Candy today told TLS they will be temporarily suspending the distribution of the Sour Worx candy after complaints of irritation.

The company received at least one complaint of a child receiving an irritation on his tongue.

“We have received reports of irritation to childrens’ mouths after eating Sour Worx candy,” the company told TLS. “This matter is currently being investigated.”

Paskesz said the Sour Worx contains citric acid, and when consumed excessively citric acid may cause mouth irritation.

“Since the safety of our children is of paramount concern to Paskesz, we are voluntarily taking the precaution of temporarily suspending distribution of Sour Worx,” the company told TLS.

“We ask our customers to take Sour Worx off the shelves pending completion of our investigation.”

“As always, the aim of Paskesz Candy is to serve the kosher consumer with high quality products,” they said.

  1. I saw the pictures and it appears to be geographic tongue.
Geographic tongue is a benign condition which is thought to be brought on by acid among other things.
Citric acid in particular, which the sour worx candy does contain is thought to cause some of the worst conditions of geographic tongue.
The good news is that even though it looks painful, it causes little to no pain and should be healed in about a week.
