New Jersey could soon begin taxing your tap water

Ready for another tax in New Jersey? It may be your tap water.

A new “User Fee” on tap water was introduced by Senator Bob Smith (D – Middlesex), which would slap a tax of approximately $30 dollars annually to an average New Jersey family. It is expected to bring in over $100 million to the state each year.

The Senator says the tax would help fix old pipelines.

“The Legislature finds and declares that New Jersey, already the most densely populated state in the nation, continues to experience deterioration of its water resources, including its rivers, streams, lakes, wetlands, and underground aquifers..” the proposed legislation states.
