LSTA busing update for 2018-2019 school year

Rabbi Krawiec of the LSTA provided TLS with the following update regarding this year’s busing.

As we near the start of the third year of the LSTA, we wanted to update all.

Out of close to 70,000 one-way-seats needed in order to bus all students affiliated with the LSTA (which is 35,000 students twice a day), we have completed the process of filling 69,300 of those. We continue to work on those final 800 seats. The next  bid will be this coming Tuesday, and we hope to fill as many of those remaining seats at that time as possible.

All bus passes will be sent to the schools over the next few days and they will disperse those to the parents.

In order to ensure an efficient and safe start up to the school year, we are no longer accepting any route changes at this time. This will enable the vendors to get the drivers their routes and do practice runs of the routes. We will accept changes beginning after Sukkos.

Please note, LSTA busing is from Sept 1st thru June 30th, Monday through Friday. Any other time, is private transportation that is set up between the school and the vendor.

While we know starting up a school year with this amount of students always takes time to settle in, we appreciate your patience in allowing the routes and drivers time to get acclimated with their routes.

I wanted to thank the transportation office of all our schools that assist us in getting our data early. That enables us to get as many students as possible on to busses on the first day of school.

  1. Thanks to Rabbi krawiec for working tirelessly throughout the past 10 months to successfully arrange transportation for our wonderful children to go to school and back safely each day!!! No one is better cut out for it than you!!!

  2. While I appreciate all of the hard work that the LSTA does, I hope that, this year, these numbers are true.
Last year in the weeks before school they publicized that the vast majority of kids were on busses (I believe the number was 92% or higher) and would be getting bus passes.
We got bus passes and then no busses showed up. The bus companies that were listed on the bus pass claimed to know nothing about the routes (yes, multiple routes in multiple schools) and parents were left to scramble at the last second. We were told that we would have bussing ‘soon’. Well, we carpooled all year. And, we never got our aid in leau checks, either (I guess cause we had bus passes).
