Senate President Sweeney Discusses the Future of Wind Energy in New Jersey

Addressing New Jersey’s offshore wind leaders at an event hosted by the Business Network for Offshore Wind and New Jersey Renews, Senate President Steve Sweeney, a longtime advocate for wind energy and clean energy technologies, highlighted the strides made over the past year and his hopes for renewable energy in the future.

“We must continue to take the actions needed to support and promote offshore wind energy in New Jersey,” said Senator Sweeney (D-Gloucester/Salem/Cumberland). “We have the resources and the ability to be in the forefront of offshore wind production and in other sectors of renewable energy technologies. We need to seize the leadership in a growing industry with the potential to create good jobs and bring long-term economic growth. This is both an environmental and an economic priority.”

“We are pleased the Senate President was able to join us, and even more pleased to have him as an ally in the Legislature,” said Liz Burdock, executive director of the Business Network for Offshore Wind. “It is so important that we as a state invest in renewable energy, and we are going to need the support of the Legislature to make that happen.”

“Time for Turbines” was held at the Atlantic County Utility Authority Wastewater Treatment Facility in Atlantic City. The event featured three panels of industry experts, labor unions and environmentalists and discussed what steps need to be taken to make New Jersey a leader in offshore wind energy.
