She gives her life for others, now she’s fighting for her life; Go Fund Me set up to help young Toms River First Aid Squad member

[Submitted by a fellow first aid member] As you can see by the photo, Megan was destined to help her community. She began volunteering at 16, and remains serving as an EMT for several towns. Now she needs help from the community. Last Friday she had a cardiac episode and went into cardiac arrest for 45 minutes while at Community Medical Center in Toms River. Once pulses returned, she was flown to Temple University Medical Center (Philadelphia, Pa), where she remains in critical condition, on life support but still in a medically induced coma. The Cardiologists and Neurologists are still working together, trying to determine what the cause of her condition is. At this point, we have no idea how long of a recovery period will be, but we do know that she has a long road ahead of her.

For those that don’t know, EMS is a calling and not a profession known to be well paid. Although Megan lives conservatively while working three jobs, she has bills that any 28-year-old would have. Her family is now faced with her managing her regular existing bills, such as student loans, car payments, insurance etc. Additionally, it is expected that insurance will not fully cover all her medical bills especially because of the level of care she has been receiving (ICU, Medevac flight). A Medevac flight alone is expected to cost in excess of $20,000.

We are here asking for your support so that Megan’s family; Mike, Deb and Michele, can still manage her daily bills and mounting medical expenses. Although we are here asking for financial assistance, more importantly we are asking for your thoughts and prayers. Naturally we are hoping for a full recovery, but at this point we’d be happy with her improving from this grave condition.

Many of Megan’s friends have inquired about starting a GoFundMe campaign for her. We decided as a family to manage this campaign to ensure all donations are used for their intended purpose. Thank you for taking the time to read this and the countless offers of assistance to the family from the entire community.
