A Winter storm nobody expected

Yesterday’s storm took the tri-state area by surprise.

What most expected to be a bit of flurries, turned out to be a nightmare of epic proportions – especially for commuters.

As earlier reported, many motorists became stranded on the roads in areas hit hard by the winter storm – which dumped nearly a foot of snow in some areas.

A wedding in Lakewood last night began around 10:30PM after the Baal Simchos arrived hours after expected, and a wedding in Monsey also started several hours late.

A trip from Monsey to Lakewood took some guests approximately five hours.

A commuter says he left the Bronx approximately 5:45 PM, and as off 11:45 PM he was still not by the GWB.

Another resident tells TLS, “I left Lakewood 2:09 PM. Arrived in Montreal 7:05 am. 17 hours. I usually do the trip in 6.5-7 hours.”

Contributing to the disastrous commute, were the hundreds of accidents.

The NJSP reported over 500 weather related accidents yesterday, with many more motorist aid calls.

The storm also took down trees and left many without power overnight in Lakewood.

Over 700 were without power until early morning, and then others lost power around 3 AM.

Power was restored for most by 7AM.

Residents also woke up to find trash bins and other items strewn across their lawns and streets.

Shabbos is expected to see temperatures of approximately 50 degrees.
