A fire ripped through a home in Lakewood this morning.
At approximately 11 AM, police responded to four reports of a home on fire at the intersection of E. 4th St. and Negba Street.
Upon arrival, police and firefighters found smoke billowing from the home.
Sources say the home may have been vacant.
The fire was knocked down quickly and no injuries were reported.
Lakewood First Aid, as well as mutual aid from Whitesville Fire Department, responded to the scene.
The fire Marshall’s office is investigating.

Feel bad for the people.
A little embarrassing that whenever there is a semi structural fire, mutual aid from nearby towns is needed.
Does anybody ever even ask Lakewood for help?

@Jay The LFD calls for mutual aid to help ensure quick and efficient mitigation of the incident in the event the fire gets out of control while trying to save life/property and as a RIT (rapid intervention team) in the event one of the LFD members goes down in a fire they will help locate and rescue that member. Other towns do call the LFD for mutual aid such as Brick, Jackson, Howell and Toms River. Its definitely not embarrassing when lives and structures are saved and secured through fast aggressive firefighting operations whether other towns come into Lakewood for assistance or when the LFD goes out of town to assist. Firefighters are all a team with one goal which is to save life and property.
Jay, it is about the structure fire during the day when a majority of volunteer firefighters work their jobs and can’t respond. So rather than losing life or the building mutual aid is called. Conditions on a fire scene can change drastically.On top of that your mutual aid has mileage and response time to overcome leaving firefighters on the scene possibly without backup for a five minute ride. It could feel like an eternity.
