Lakewood Cheder: Approximately 60 children sent home for non-vaccination, 20 remain out of school

Contrary to rumors, the Lakewood Cheder – Lakewood’s largest private school – is strictly adhering to the warnings of local doctors and advice of the Ocean County Health Department.

Lakewood Cheder Executive Director Rabbi Yosef Posen tells The Lakewood Scoop approximately 60 children were sent home from both the Cheder and Bais Faiga for non-vaccination, and about 40 of them returned after receiving their shots.

Rabbi Posen says the school had a no-tolerance policy for those not vaccinated, for whatever the reason was for not receiving the shots.

As earlier reported, other Lakewood schools also sent home notices and phoned parents notifying them of the policy.

“Just some of the hardliners remain home,” another school administrator told TLS.

A number of parents who threatened to sue private schools for not allowing their children also backed down after Dr. Roberts’ videos and letter from an attorney were released.

  1. It says 60 from Cheder and Bais Faiga combined. That’s a very little percentage in such a huge amount of kids from those schools. Kudos to rabbi Posen for taking a stand

  2. Exactly the point “wondering” this whole thing is mass hysteria to force people to do what makes sense to them because they believe it’s the right thing. The news media in the country are making fun of the extremists behavior here in Lakewood by the pro vaxxers. And my kids are vaccinated however I like to have an open mind and not follow blindly whatever a dr. says I only have full emunah in Hashem not people.( especially when they make millions on their opinion)

  3. Even though it’s a small percentage I’m still shocked at how many kooks there are out there that are antivaxers.
Also are there any statistics on what percentage of those currently infected, as to how many were unvaccinated?

  4. To “Me”:

Vaccine reactions may not be immediate, but Polio reactions are. 5.6 percent of patients DEAD (WORSE than autism), over 30 percent crippled.

Smallpox results were immidiate. 20 percent DEAD.

Measles may not sound as bad, but 1 in 1000 dead is not a great number. If no one would be vaccinated, 100 children in Lakewood would Ch”V be DEAD. (Yes, it would’ve ch”v taken place over a number of years, so the results wouldn’t have seemed so dramatic, but nevertheless 100 dead children = 100 dead children.)

To any parent who believes their child got autism from vaccines: let’s say that the whole medical world is wrong and you are indeed right. BE HAPPY! Statistically, your child would more likely have been DEAD, and many of his friends as well. Thank Hashem that you have a beautiful LIVE child, and all he has is autism.

    • Your stats are wrong– did you just make them up on the fly? Also The “whole medical world” is NOT in agreement that vaccines do not cause autism. In fact medical research has over a thousand peer reviewed and published studies showing a link. The US has not had a measles death in well over a decade but tens of thousands of serious adverse reactions have been reported and well over a hundred deaths from the vaccine.

  5. I have Rabbi Posen for a long time. When he was Rosh Yeshiva in Bradley Beach and I was his executive director. His love of true Halacha and for children makes him always do the right things. And this is the right thing to do..

It took my ex and I seven years to have children we did not think twice giving all my children the shot yes my second born third child was on the spectrum and yes it was hard on him. But today he is one of the top students weather Torah subjects or secular subjects that he received a full academic scholarship to Rutgers and MIT and was accepted to coopers in both computer engineering and mechanical engineering and is on deans list. When he was in six grade he was learn 12th grade gamar and still is learning and gives shiurs all thought he his shay. But that good he is well. btw my oldest brother had the measles and the whooping cough at the same time Bh he is a lawyer though he needed some medical issues addressed and my mom told us how bad he suffered we knew we had to give all my children it

  6. For all those upset parents I understand why you are upset. But that doesn’t mean that 2,000 plus kids should be at risk of getting the measles and other diseases (and potentially passing away). Even though you might be disappointed because you have to entertain him/her & give lunch doesn’t mean you should threaten to sue, think for a moment. You’re trying to scare the school by threatening them because there protecting them from getting sick just because you don’t care about a few thousand kids they should chas v’shalom end up in the hospital battling for their lives because you were victorious in a battle of putting innocent kids in danger if someone chas v’shalom passes away because your kid didn’t get a shot your a murderer. BOTTOM LINE IS YOUR DESTROYING PEOPLES LIVES SO YOU CAN HAVE A BETTER AND MORE CONVENIENT ONE. Your a child abuser you should be put behind bars.
