Some concerned residents notified TLS they saw people with rifles and heard shots fired coming from wooded areas.
It’s hunting season, and the men are -or should be – licensed bear and deer hunters.
According to New Jersey Division of Fish & Wildlife, “All hunters are reminded to observe the 450-foot “Safety Zone” distance around buildings and playgrounds when firearm hunting and the 150-foot distance when archery hunting (except 450-feet around playgrounds).”
If you spot anyone you believe is suspicious, as usual, call the Lakewood Police Department.
So on the weekends we literally see these hunters in the woods right behind our backyard. Is that legal? It’s not an official playground, but I can’t let my children play outside in our backyard due to the danger. Some of them even talk to my children and tell them to keep away. Is that ok? I’m definitely not okay with this!

NO! that’s not OK. I don’t think they’re allowed to be so close to residential areas. I would definitely call Lakewood police and please keep the kids inside.
We need more hunters. In Pine Park there are several dozen dear on any given day. That is way too many to survive the winter and will lead to many of the deer starving as well as to many motor vehicle accidents. The numbers need to be lowered dramatically For the sake of the safety of drivers as well as for the well-being of the deer population.
see them all the time! they have been doing this for 40 years here, before you moved in!

Remeber no hunters equals more dear and more car accidents. 450 feet sounds like a lot but it is not, so the hunters are not as close as you might think. With all of the building in the area, the dear have nowhere to go and hunters have no place to hunt.
As dovid said people have been hunting in Lakewood for generations and not just years.
whats the chidush here? us hunters do this every season, perhaps this person just moved into the area, but please don’t try to make issues for us hunters, we were here first!! and please stop cutting down our trees!
I hit a deer on the GSP few months ago. Luckily it was at 1am and there were no cars behind me. They can cause multi car accidents when they jump into the roadway with no time to brake or swerve.
A few hunters shoot them not that terrible….
