BREAKING: Arrest made in connection with stabbing, carjacking in Lakewood; 2 still at large

The Lakewood Police Department has arrested one of the individuals involved in the carjacking earlier this week, police said.

On the evening of January 13th, Engel Paulino was approached by three masked men who proceeded to forcibly remove him from his 2007 BMW on East Spruce Street. During the struggle, Paulino sustained a large laceration to the side of his head as well as several, non life threatening stab wounds to his chest. He was transported to a local hospital where he was treated and released.

Further investigation by Officer Kevin Martin lead to the recovery of Paulino’s vehicle late Monday afternoon in Neptune Township. The vehicle was transported back to the Ocean County Sheriff’s Department for processing and evidence recovery. In addition, facts learned during the investigation lead to the identification of 25-year-old Stanin Morgan of Neptune New Jersey as one of the three men involved.

Based on the above, a warrant was issued for Morgan for Robbery, Aggravated Assault as well as Weapon Violations.

Yesterday evening, Morgan was located and arrested by the Asbury Park Police Department Street Crimes Unit. He was transported back to the Lakewood Police Department for processing prior to being lodged in the Ocean County Jail.

“We would like to thank all of the agencies who assisted in this case; Ocean County Sheriff’s Department, Neptune Township Police Department, Asbury Park Police Department and the United States Marshalls Office,” Detective Captain Greg Staffordsmith said.

“In addition, this case is still active and although charges have not been filed at the time of this release, we are hopeful that the remaining suspects will be apprehended in the near future.”
