Assemblyman Edward H. “Ned” Thomson said he hopes a recent poll showing Gov. Phil Murphy’s poll numbers dropping will cause him to rethink his extreme agenda that has resulted in more spending and higher taxes for state residents.
“This poll illustrates that New Jersey taxpayers are already tiring of Governor Murphy’s tax and spend policies that are making our state increasingly unaffordable,” said Thomson (R-Monmouth). “I am hopeful these results will cause him to rethink his costly spending initiatives and begin to focus on reducing the burden on New Jersey residents.”
A recent Monmouth University poll found a sharp increase in the number of resident who disapprove of the job Murphy is doing as governor. According to the poll, Murphy is viewed less favorably than both Chris Christie and Jon Corzine were at this point in their terms as governor.
“Clearly, the more people learn about Governor Murphy’s plans to hike their taxes to pay for his expensive agenda, the more they disapprove of the job he is doing,” said Thomson, who noted the last state budget increased taxes by $1.7 billion while property taxes have doubled over the last 20 years.
“It should come as no surprise that some of the most overtaxed people in the country are telling him to put the brakes on the higher taxes that are making it harder to afford to stay in New Jersey,” he added.
