Lakewood Mayor Ray Coles responds to your ‘Ask The Mayor’ questions: Forest Ave and County Line Road

Question:

Hi, for a while now my mom and I have had to drive on Forest Avenue heading north towards Gourmet Glatt Plaza. But the intersection of Forest Avenue and County Line Road is badly designed and just plain dangerous. The road is wide enough for about 3 cars to squeeze in side by side but there are no lane markers so people just line up wherever they want. This sometimes causes cars in two separate “lanes” to both go forward and try to fit in a single lane road which causes some close calls. Just in the past 4 days I’ve had 2 situations where I had to stop because the person next to me was also going forward, and they were aggressively driving and tried to get in the single lane before me and almost caused a crash. Please take a look at that intersection in general because it can get pretty bad heading south on it as well.

Response from Mayor Coles:

We have asked the county to look into improvements at this intersection. I have a meeting scheduled with them in the near future at which we will discuss needed improvements in town & get an idea of their proposed schedule for enacting them. I will bring this up with them in person.

  1. living by this corner i can tell u that there are major problems here. The worst is that people on county line go into the intersection whether there is room or not. So when Forest has the green noone can move I don’t know what the eitza is other than having a traffic cop there.

  2. The solution to the intersection being blocked is what they have in Manhattan if you block the intersection you get a fine meaning if you think you might block it do to the fact that the car in front of you is backed all the way up to the intersection then don’t attempt to cross the intersection! We have to adapt to growth and accept the fact that lkwd is not a little town and stop giving building permits in places where the understructure can handle the growth until you have a solution
