  1. With all due respect, the new “Cross Traffic Doesn’t Stop” sign doesn’t help. That intersection is incredibly dangerous. It is nearly impossible to see vehicles coming from the right when on Brook Road. Either we need a four way stop sign, or a no-parking sign across from the shul.

  2. Mazel Tov!!!!!!!

    It happened again.

This is going on for year’s, and the township has done nothing about it.

Oh I forgot, they put up a small sign a few weeks ago, that you can hardly see, that says, cross traffic dosen’t stop.

The township should be ashamed of them self, all they can do is raise taxes.

I hope someone Sue’s the township in the biggest way!!!!!!!

    • This is not the fault of the township !!!!!!!!! This is Lakewood people always in a rush , not obeying laws , and putting themselves before everyone else …
Slow down be courteous and respectful . Cant expect government to do everything for you …

      • Hey Jason, Are you a propheti that you know that its a “lakewood People”.

Why so hatefull. How about The “lakewood People” who have virtually no crime, no teen pregnancies, and no violence. Whats with that?!!

        • jason, chill out. he is right, pple arent looking when they are driving. pple are always rushing and stuff…but yea it would be helpful if the township would put in a 4 way stop. ironic how the intersection in LKWD with the most accidents is the one with a gravesite…

      • Regardless, if the township has seen a high # of accidents here, and there are still many things can be done to improve the situation in terms of safety…. then THEY MUST. i pay very high taxes and pass that intersection slowly and Extra carefully 4 x a day. it is their responsibility to see a problem and DO SOMETHING. (the tiny sign is clearly not enough) a 4 way stop is needed. and a no parking sign

      • Jason – I am a safe, respectful, courteous driver. I obey traffic rules and take the extra seconds to ensure safety of all drivers and pedestrians I encounter. That being said, this particular intersection is incredibly unsafe. The speed limit is higher than a standard city street and the visibility is poor due to the curve of the road. I drive here every day and fear an accident that can happen even with all possible precautions I can take. Perhaps in this instance, the driver was at fault, but regardless, this intersection needs help, and our local government SHOULD get involved.

  3. I use that intersection every day and the real issue is that people don’t have the common courtesy to follow the street signs and not park so close to the corners.

  4. I bet it had nothing to do with the parking situation. The cars hugging the corners probably aren’t in the way. And speed.. don’t you see how slow he was driving??. Thank you for Keeping our auto body shops and police in business. Keep the statistics coming!!

  5. With all due respect, I don’t understand. Isn’t there a stop sign when coming from Brook Road? Whether you see any other sign or not, you STOP at a stop sign! I hope everyone’s ok.

  6. The white car didn’t stop at the stop sign and take the time to actually look. I do agree that corner is almost death corner. Funny and it’s near cemetery

  7. I do hope the twp. does something to alleviate the problems with this intersection. However, cars don’t flip over in every car accident. Is it possible that this time the car flipped over because at least one of the cars was going too fast? (I am wondering the same thing about the bus that flipped over in the accident in Israel this week)

  8. I cross this intersection multiple times a day and its a perfectly safe intersection if drivers pay attention to driving rules. In this particular case, the car parked on East 7th should be ticketed for parking so close to the corner, there are reasons why there is 25 feet law which for some reason the LPD doesn’t ticket for ( it should be 100 feet) but regardless of the careless driver who parked there and by doing so obstructing the view of the SDUV he should have proceeded into the intersection extremely cautiously.

    • I cross this intersection multiple times a day and it IS NOT a perfectly safe intersection. It is hard to see and the speed limit on E 7/Ridge is high.

  9. Both cars are at fault. The white van didn’t come to a stop at the corner. The black van was going much to fast.
Slow down, every one seems in a rush to get to the grave quicker.

  10. I go thru there all the time, CAREFULLY since there are so many accidents there.
in this case it is clear that-
1- the white SUV didnt come to a complete stop and didnt properly look both ways, or he would have seen the car coming
2- the cars parked so close to the corner blocked his view.

After viewing all the videos of various accidents, these two reasons cause 99% of the accidents.

SOLUTION– township should paint yellow lines along all the corners and strictly enforce NO PARKING HERE TO CORNER!!!
Towing a few violators will probably solve the problem.

A light there would be a nuisance, especially coming after a series of speed bumps.

  11. I almost got killed or injured here. A grocery delivery truck thought it was a stop sign and went when i was passing on e 7th (started going before i came through the intersection) they were going fast since they saw no one at waiting at the “other stop signs” and they missed me by a few feet.

  12. Wow !! This one is scary. Truthfully however, many people are at fault. # 1 is the guy who parked so close to the curb.
But I dont wanna go thru the whole story. Bottom line, Lkwd Twsp needs to (A) Lower the speed Limit on E. 7th st; (B)( – Put i a 4-way Stop sign there on that corner; (C) Every time the surveillance footage from the shul is usedfor the investigation of an accident, each driver involved & LPD must sponsor Kava And Neiros for that week. Period. Baveeeeer……

    • No way to lower speed limit there, it already 20mph due to school zone! Traffic in this town is a disaster! That’s why everyone is busy taking chances like that white SUV did, it just wanted to get there already!!!

  13. Question: Your article says Twsp officials are talking to the county. Is there a reason why the county needs to get involved in these roads ? None of these roads are county roads. I’m lost.

  14. I drive there every day and this morning as well. It was so scary to turn left onto seventh from Brook. I could not see oncoming traffic at all. Even if you proceed with utmost care you could still get hit. I was so disappointed when they put up that sign that cross traffic doesn’t stop. It should be a four way stop and then all this danger would be eliminated. How many accidents will we have to see on Lakewood Scoop?

  15. The issue is not so much the speed and the curve. Having analyzed many accidents there seems to be an issue with people understanding their vision limitations. Eyes can not see through or around objects. The driver of the white vehicle could not have possibly seen down the road (e 7th St) because the grey sienna just turned right directly in front and blocking their view. If you go back and look at the other accidents here you’ll notice a similar pattern, there was usually a vehicle using the just used the intersection blocking a driver’s view from clearly seeing down the road and still that driver would proceed and cause an accident. This intersection happens to have a camera but this is the reason to the majority of accidents around town, the issue is not necessary this intersection. Please understand that even without cars parked close to the intersection there still are blind spots caused by the vehicle pillars.

  16. One thing I was taught very early- driving only the speed limit, taking the time to inch out and look both ways at a stop sign will get you to your destination 2-5 minutes later. But an accident will waste an hour, if you can even make it there afterwards. Slow down.

The 2nd car never stopped at the sign. The owner of the parked gray (and possibly red) van is too stupid to realize that “no parking within 50 feet of a stop sign” (NJ law 39:4-138) doesn’t mean 50 feet in front of it, it means 50 feet around it. He should be ticketed as well. Not that a ticket will undo the injuries in the accident, but it will help everyone in the future.

  17. Look at the video, you’ll see 2 minivans parked northwest of the intersection. They are the ones who obstructed the view of the drivers and caused this. It happens over town. People park at corners (even for a minute) and other people loose out
