Additional Exposures Associated with Lakewood Measles Outbreak

The New Jersey Department of Health is warning residents of a highly suspect case of measles associated with the current outbreak of measles in

Ocean County that potentially exposed individuals in Ocean County on March 10.

The Department and local health officials are investigating any connection between the recent cases, the previous outbreak in Ocean County or current outbreaks in other states.

Anyone who visited the following locations may have been exposed to measles:

    • Tottini Kids Wear, 204 Clifton Ave, Lakewood, NJ 08701
      • March 10 from 12 p.m. to 3:15 p.m.
    • Clover, 115 Clifton Ave, Lakewood, NJ 08701
      • March 10 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
    • Kidichic, 251 2nd St, Lakewood, NJ 08701
      • March 10 from 1:45 p.m. to 5 p.m.

The Department is working in collaboration with the Ocean County Health Department to identify and notify people who might have been exposed during the time the individuals were infectious. In the event that additional exposures are identified, information will be updated on the Department’s measles page.

The Department recommends that anyone who visited the location listed above during the specified dates/times should contact a health provider immediately to discuss potential exposure and risk of developing the illness. If you have been exposed, you are at risk if you have not been vaccinated or have not had measles. Individuals potentially exposed, if infected, could develop symptoms as late as April 8.

Anyone who suspects an exposure is urged to call a health care provider before going to a medical office or emergency department. Special arrangements can be made for evaluation while also protecting other patients and medical staff from possible infection.

Measles symptoms include rash, high fever, cough, runny nose and red, watery eyes. It can cause serious complications such as pneumonia and encephalitis (swelling of the brain). Measles infection in a pregnant woman can lead to miscarriage, premature birth or a low-birth-weight baby. Measles is easily spread through the air when someone coughs or sneezes. People can also get sick when they come in contact with mucus or saliva from an infected person.

Anyone who has not been vaccinated or has not had measles is at risk if they are exposed. “Two doses of measles vaccine are about 97 percent effective in preventing measles,” said Dr. Christina Tan, state epidemiologist.

“We urge everyone to check to make sure they and their family members are up-to-date on measles/mumps/rubella (MMR) vaccine and all other age-appropriate immunizations. Getting vaccinated not only protects you, it protects others around you who are too young to get the vaccine or can’t receive it for medical reasons. If you’re planning an international trip, the World Health Organization recommends that adults or adolescents unsure of their immune status get a dose of measles vaccine before traveling,” Dr. Tan added.

  1. That’s right. If they didn’t get vaccinated they are reckless. If they did, the unvaccinated caused them to get sick and that is very unfortunate.

I actually e-mailed Dan Regenye of the Ocean County Health Department during the November outbreak to request that unvaccinated children be required to stay out of school. Enough is enough risking all our children’s health with their disproven whims. They should stay out of all public places, supermarkets, malls, and Houses of Worship.

What a chillul Hashem they make, together with all the people in Washington state and Texas who have measles, and in the Philadelphia temple who have mumps even though they were vaccinated.

  2. Religious and personal exemptions should not be allowed for skirting vaccinations any longer. The only type of exemption should be for legitimate medical concerns. End of discussion.

  3. Agreed. There should be no medical exemptions on any adverse event that have settled science.
Unfortunately the iom says that the jury is out on 155 adverse events including autism.
Which means there’s no settled science about that…

  4. Why are you asking for more governmental control? Do you want to lose your freedom of choice? The repercussions of gov’t control far outweigh the risks of the measles.

  5. My friend who lives out of lakewood asked me to share this: “My husband and baby have the measles. They have fever, fatigue, and a mild rash. They are BH FINE. Please don’t be scared of the measles.” It is a benign virus. Of course there are potential complications as is the case with ALL illnesses including strep, rsv, and the flu. Please don’t panic about some 0.001% chance of something happening. There can be complications and side effects to everything including taking tylenol, drinking soda, or driving a car. The panic, social stigma, and stressing over the measles is waaay worse than the actual disease. Do your best to take care of your OWN kids and let Hashem take care of the rest. It is not part of our normal hishtadlus to worry about everyone else’s choices.

    • I totally agree. By the way, only one person has died from the measles in the USA in the past 12 years, while VAERS lists hundreds of reported deaths due to the MMR vaccine.

So far this year, the US government vaccine court has paid out over $110 million to families for compensation of vaccine injuries or deaths. (Since the US govt court (taxpayer-funded) was established in the 1980s, they have paid out over $4 billion, where the most a family can get is $250,000.)

  6. It appears that Gofundme will not allow any fundraising for those who are “promoting misinformation on vaccines.” Amazon is removing anti-vaccine videos and books, Etsy is removing anti-vaccine items, and facegroup and instagram are attempting to remove all anti-vaccine groups that are spreading misinformation.

What are the vaccine companies afraid of? That people will use their own brains and come to their own conclusions? Most of those who are skeptical about vaccines are using FDA, CDC, HHS and vaccine manufacturers’ own documents to support their concerns.

If you are not afraid to read what the other side is saying, please read Dr. Richard Moskowitz’s book, “Vaccines – a reappraisal” (2017). He has extensive references to support everything that he writes about in this clear and organized book. (Get it before it is banned in America!)

If you want to believe what the pharma-controlled media tells you, then you have every right to do that. But to silence what others have to say should raise some suspicions, don’t you think?

  7. Stop. This that can’t get vaccines for various legitimate medical reasons rely on herd immunity to protect them.
Now all of these people are put at risk once again, from a previously eradicated disease, because of misinformation campaigns by irresponsible anti-vaxxers.
But hey, what’s a little pneumonia and encephalitis among friends?

    • Mike, perhaps you would like to buy the book and understand the concerns involved. (Encephalitis is one of the adverse side effects of the MMR vaccine, included in the manufacturer’s insert. Only one person in the last 12 years has died from measles in the USA.)

  8. From the information I gathered, the misinformed are those that believe the media that is paid by BigPharma. In the last few months I came across quite a few people that were very big pro vaxxers and talking the exact way that all of you do against the antivaxxers and have unfortunately seen very severe side effects on their own children and are in deep pain as the ramifications are serious. My advise to all that are against the anti-vaxxers, to do some research before they might be forced to do research because they have a reason to….
I don’t see any misinformation with the antivaxxers. I see people that have seen adverse reactions and then decided to do research and living with lots of guilt for making fun of those who don’t give.
Be smart!! Do something before you experience serious vaccine injuries on your own family that can cause lifelong dysfunction in many areas.
