Jackson Negotiations Apparently Conducted In Bad Faith | A. Webley

As noted in previous articles, recently discovered trove of emails sent by Jackson Township officials show with crystal clear clarity that officials were not negotiating with Jewish residents in order to achieve a result beneficial to all Jackson residents, but rather to pander to the Jewish community when they needed them politically.

Another set of emails that have been unearthed in the past few days show that Jackson’s attorney, Jean Cipriani, may have been in cahoots with other officials like Mayor Mike Reina and Township Council President Rob Nixon regarding the sham negotiations that were being conducted with local Jewish residents.

In an email from February of this year, Jackson Township attorney Jean Cipriani wrote to mayor Michael Reina that she had done what was requested of her, specifically continuing negotiations with Jewish residents in order to “ensure a quiet 2018”, quite obviously so that Mike Reina would win reelection without needing to deal with a religious freedom lawsuit hanging over his head.

Now that the election is over, Jackson hired an $800/hr lawyer in order to fight their Jewish residents’ right to put up an eruv or shul, rather than provide funding for a stronger police force which the Chief all but begged them for.

What seems clear is that Mayor Reina and Council President Nixon are playing politics – telling their Jewish constituents what they want to hear before throwing them under the bus. But it is more than that. Bad-faith negotiations are severely frowned upon by legal authorities. It shows a contempt and disregard for those you are negotiating with, and a lack of seriousness for the matter at hand.

It is kind of startling how Jackson’s officials seem to be willing to sell the town down the river by way of bottomless legal fees so that they don’t, God forbid, have to deal with a piece of fishing wire hanging between poles. It would be completely startling, but as I continue my investigations, I’m really getting used to these shenanigans.

These emails have shown that Mayor Reina and Rob Nixon are willing to do anything to get reelected at the expense of the taxpayers of Jackson and one can only wonder how much lower will they sink before the next election, and how much will Jackson’s taxes be raised in order to fund their election campaigns.

  1. Reina used township funds for election purposes wow wow wow can anyone remind me why the county employees a bigot who abuses public funds who knows what else he has done

  2. In my opinion,if warranted, it’s time to hit them with a personal lawsuit that will not be covered under the Township’s insurance policy. They should personally pay the damages; not the taxpayers.

  3. Sent emails to freeholders and pba…Nixon and Reina are acting un-American as they trample on the civil rights of the Orthodox community

  4. Zone 1 in Jackson is going to finally have the 1x a year bulk pickup next Tuesday.
There are currently many many basketball hoops in the ROW.
Are they going to take all the hoops away during bulk pickup? How will they know to differentiate between basketball hoops and the rest of the items being put out for bulk pickup???

  5. We should file a lawsuit against you for trying to take over where your not wanted you will destroy our town like you did Lakewood and you will ruin our quality of life!

  6. @Tina you seem very informed and sound like a brilliant individual. I would love to meet you and have a real discussion about our Jewish neighbors. I have 4 of 12 on my block, and they are much more friendly and helpful then my other neighbors that have been here for years……Tina, learn the facts and get to know some Jews and your view will change really quickly.

  7. Tina, it’s the un-Americans like you that maybe should find a place out of this beautiful country to spread your unwarranted hate!!

  8. I am very Orthodox and I have lived in Lakewood a loooong time, but, I do not like what has happened to Lakewood. I am certainly not anti Jewish, I am anti over development. If that’s what Tina means then she is not an antisemite. If she just doesn’t want Jews in Jackson, then……

  9. @mytake Tina literally said she would “like to sue Jews that move to Jackson” and, “we don’t want you here”. I’m not sure what the debate is about regarding her blatantly anti-Semitic comments.

  10. I as well am very anti the over-development and therefore moved out to Jackson. I wish Tina and so many others like her would realize that the jewish folk moving out of town are just as anti development. We too want a calm serene town for our kids.

@non jewish jackson resident; your words are heartwarming. Myself and my fellow orthodox have the full intention of being good loyal and friendly neighbors. We have zero interest in “taking over” and we appreciate you seeing that.

My neighbors have been super friendly and despite all the bad-press that both sides get my family loves our block and we get along great with our neighbors!!

  11. why is it always a lawsuit. Jackson people have a say on how we want our town to be. I have lived here for over 40 years, and I like it the way it is. There are laws and ordiances I have had to follow and new comers should do the same. we do not want it over populated and schools on every corner like Lakewood
