PUBLIC HEALTH ALERT: Potential Measles Exposure at Newark Liberty International Airport

On March 4, 2019, a traveler who has been confirmed to have measles — a highly contagious disease — arrived in Terminal C at Newark Liberty International Airport from Aruba. The individual was infectious on that day and may have traveled to other areas of the airport. If you were in the airport between March 4 at 9 p.m. and March 5 at 9:30 a.m., you may have been exposed to measles and, if infected, could develop symptoms as late as March 26. The individual departed for California from Terminal C.

New Jersey residents identified as potentially exposed on the ill individual’s flights will be notified by their local health department.

Anyone who suspects an exposure is urged to call a health care provider before going to a medical office or emergency department. Special arrangements can be made for evaluation while also protecting other patients and medical staff from possible infection.

Measles symptoms include rash, high fever, cough, runny nose and red, watery eyes. It can cause serious complications such as pneumonia and encephalitis (swelling of the brain). Measles infection in a pregnant woman can lead to miscarriage, premature birth or a low-birth-weight baby. Measles is easily spread through the air when someone coughs or sneezes. People can also get sick when they come in contact with mucus or saliva from an infected person.

“Two doses of measles vaccine are about 97 percent effective in preventing measles, so I urge all residents across the state to get vaccinated to protect their health. Anyone who has not been vaccinated or has not had measles is at risk if they are exposed,” said Dr. Christina Tan, state epidemiologist. “We urge everyone to check to make sure they and their family members are up-to-date on measles/mumps/rubella (MMR) vaccine and all other age-appropriate immunizations.

“Getting vaccinated not only protects you, it protects others around you who are too young to get the vaccine or can’t receive it for medical reasons. If you’re planning an international trip, the World Health Organization recommends that adults or adolescents unsure of their immune status get a dose of measles vaccine before traveling,” Dr. Tan added.

  1. I think this is important to share. Rep. Josh Elliot of Connecticut is concerned about ” ‘pseudo science’ fueling fear among a ‘vocal minority’ about vaccine safety.” (He also supports removing religious exemptions for vaccines.)

Therefore he organized an informational forum on the science behind vaccines at the Connecticut capital’s legislative office building this morning. Yale University professors (pro-vaccine) and RFK, Jr. (vaccine skeptic) were scheduled to be on the panel.

Last night each and everyone of the five Yale professors schedule to appear backed out. Why? Could it be they (or their higher-ups) got pressure from pharma companies not to appear?

(I just came across this article online: “Vaccine expert named first director of Yale Institute for Global Health,” January 24, 2019. The expert is Dr. Saad B. Omer, who has served on the National Vaccine Advisory Committee.)

  2. Addendum to my previous post in case it was not clear: Anytime the “anti-vaccine/vaccine skeptic” or “pro-choice” community wants to have an open debate on the subject, the other side does not want to attend. Their excuse is usually that they don’t want to give credence to the other side. But could the truth lie more with the fact that they are afraid to debate the other side, knowing what the other side is going to present? Knowing what current science is now supporting?

  3. At a pre-meeting gathering, RFK, Jr. states that in pre-clinical trials for Gardasil (HPV vaccine), it was reported that 2.3% of those who were given the vaccine developed auto-immune disease within six months. He also said that there is no evidence that Gardasil protects against cervical cancer (which I believe he said affects 2.3 per 100,000 Americans yearly, average age 58). On the contrary, he said that Merck’s clinical data says that it can increase cancer in certain populations.

You can go the Children’s Health Defense web page and search for this article: “HPV Vaccines Likely Contributed to Sweden’s Spike in Cervical Cancer.” Please read this article and do your own research before you agree to have your young daughters and sons injected with Gardasil, which contains aluminum and other toxic ingredients.
