TLS EXCLUSIVE: Ocean County Corrections Officers placed Jewish Inmate in jail cell defaced with swastikas, large target symbol, and “Pop Him” adjacent to his name, Explosive New Lawsuit Alleges

Today, the Goldman Wells Legal Group filed a lawsuit against the County of Ocean and its Department of Corrections alleging horrific treatment of a Jewish inmate while he was being held for an outstanding warrant on a misdemeanor. The horrific incident took place between on Saturday, March 9, 2019 through Monday evening, March 11, 2019.

Moshe Iskhakov, 29, from Jackson Township, was charged with misdemeanor harassment stemming from divorce proceedings with his ex-wife. Mr. Iskhakov was brought to the Ocean County jail on March 9, 2019.

Corrections officers repeatedly taunted him for wearing a yarmulke, and then placed him in a cell defaced with swastikas and a large target symbol, along with his name adjacent to the words “pop him”. He immediately feared for his safety, according to the lawsuit.

Those concerns were amplified by discriminatory actions and comments made by corrections officers themselves, as outlined in the suit. Uniformed corrections officers told other inmates to “Go take care of that Jew Boy”, according to the complaint. (Later that evening, inmates threatened to “knife him”.) Publicly, corrections officers disparaged the inmate saying, “Jew Boy thinks he’s special.” During his incarceration, an officer told Mr. Iskhakov, “You Jews own everything. Out there you make the rules, but in here we make the rules.” The lawsuit also alleges that Corrections Officers repeatedly denied Mr. Iskhakov’s requests to pray, though such accommodations are routinely made for other inmates.

“Sadly, we live in a world where anti-semitism is now the norm,” Ian Goldman, attorney for Mr. Iskhakov told The Lakewood Scoop. “What is truly horrific about this case, is that it appears to have been openly practiced by Ocean County Corrections Officers, whose duty is to serve and to protect the public.”

Mr. Goldman says his client continues to experience severe emotional trauma as a result of the abuse he endured during his detention.

“For nearly 72 hours, my client was terrorized for the simple fact that he is a Jew,” said Mr. Goldman. “And worse, he was terrorized by officers of the court. We are exploring all legal actions and remedies available to make sure this never happens to anyone else while being held in the Ocean County Jail.”

  1. Are we living in America???? WHAT IS GOING ON IN THIS STATE?!?!?
Wake up folks, there is a tremendous increase in anti-Semitism inspired by a biased media against Religious Jews, openly bigoted and discriminatory Facebook pages and Local Townships that give the wink wink by refusing to specifically condemn RUOC.

  2. When I was in OCJ – they didn’t let me have Tzitzis or Teffilin. They have the mentality that accommodating Orthodox Jewish Beliefs is Not part of their Job.

  3. How disgusting to hear of this story of Anti-Semi-tism in the Ocean County Jail system. I lived in OC for 30 yrs. and I am ashamed that you did not protect and help this man no matter what the circumstances were. You are all supposed to serve the public, not berate any of us because we are JEWISH, AFRO-AMERICAN, SPANISH ETC. Let’s face it, if it was one of your family members, the shoe would be on the other foot.

  4. guys this is the USA but we are in galus, we are getting to comfortable here the building of houses is out of control…. need to tone things down quickly..not to take away that this story is unacceptable and no one deserves such abuse!!!

  5. How dare they place this man in a cell with graffiti. They should of painted a private cell just for him. Who stopped him from praying. I pray all the time. They only got one side of the story i would like to hear the other side before we judge anyone.

  6. Unfortunate many women use Restraining orders with exaggerated claims to have their Ex Husbands arrested in order to get the upper hand in Divorce proceedings ,Custody ,Posession of the home. It allways helps when you are able to portray your spouse as a criminal

  7. Can TLS verify the authenticity of these claims? Is there any corroborating evidence or witnesses? Is there video footage that was subpoenaed? I ask these questions because if the claims are not provable, or worse if not completely true it can be very detrimental to all. We should all bear in mind what just happened in Chicago. Obviously if this really did happen and can be proven than hopefully the perpetrators will suffer their due consequences.. However, it sounds a little too extreme to believe at face value.

  8. Jail is big Business in America. It is a Multi Billion dollar industry America has more people incarcerated than any nation on planet earth

  9. Treatment like this is unacceptable.
Today there are video cameras all over schools, libraries, hospitals and jail cells
The lawyer must of gotten footage of these and is able to sue.
Today there is accountability of your actions. Everything is recorder!!
    Hope this never happens again.

  10. everyone take a deep breath. IF this really happened, then we should have a media blitz and lawsuits the likes of which have never been seen. if it didn’t happened we should do the same to the perpitratior of fake news. in either case, we should let our voices be heard
LOUD AND CLEAR. this is America. We have that right
