JUST IN: (PHOTOS & VIDEOS below). Numerous cars were just involved in an MVA at Pine and 9 with live wires and trees down. Hatzolah, PD and FD are enroute. As we report this we are getting reports of a car on fire. We will keep you updated. (All updates in extended article). (Mobile users click here and here to view videos on youtube). Second video: Report from Seargent Glenn Clayton on the scene describing what happened.
VIDEO 1
VIDEO 2
U/D 10:21 a.m. The scene is completely chaotic right now as a truck continues to burn in flames for 20 min. Live wires are everywhere. PHOTOS & VIDEO will be posted soon.
U/D 10:27 a.m.A man is still trapped in the truck as emergency personnel wait for JCP&L to shut off electricity. Fire trucks from neighboring towns continue to head in to the scene. TLS spoke with officer Dennis Dowden- 315- who said the initial MVA appears to have been caused by a car hitting a pole-which brought down the live wires.
U/D 10:55 a.m. B’nos Rivka Rochel is now being evacuated as there is no power in the area. Route 9 is closed from approximately Chestnut until Central Avenue.
U/D 11:10 a.m. The man in the truck has been rescued. The fires are all out at this time. Expect heavy delays over the next few hours.
U/D 12:26 p.m. A TLS reader has just notified us, that Pine Street from Route 9 up until New Hampshire is at a complete standstill at this time. Avoid the entire area (Pine River Village, Forest Park Circle etc.) if possible-including streets leading in to Pine Street.

how do you get into new england village the roads are blocked
Thank you to all that aided in the rescue as it was my father that was trapped in his truck. I am greatful to report that he is ok but still a bit rattled. Thanks again to all and a job well done!
Busses are not going past Central you have to pick up kids……
so whens the movie coming out

in lakewood lololo,
had this happened an hour earlier there would’ve no way for rescue workers to get there with enough to to help. widen route 9 now!
Pine River – where was the hole? Oh, did you mean the WHOLE (as in all of the) area ? I know you probably did not learn English in high school, but where were you for spelling in second grade?

Ben Eliezer,
Since I see you enjoy Proper English, I have a few suggestions for you:
1. What is “-” there for? You should have a comma (“,”) to separate the person you are addressing and your comment.
2. The word “WHOLE” should be in lower case and in double quotes (” ” “).
3. There should not be a space between “area” and the question mark (“?”).
4. After “school” there should be a semi colon (” ; “) and not a comma.
5. “Spelling” should capitalized, since you are referring to a class subject (proper noun) and not the action (verb).
6. In between sentences there should be two spaces, not one.
I assume you made it to ninth grade. Congratulations!
Any clue when the power will be back up?
To “Just Me.”
I am happy to see someone else made it to ninth grade. Obviously, you excelled in typing as well as spelling.
My point is that after reading numerous comments featuring horrendous spelling and messed up syntax by “unserer,” I can’t understand why a basic secular education is frowned upon by our community.
Kol hakavod to Tiny Tots for evacuating and relocating so efficiantly!!! thank you for giving our children top notch care!
i would like to thank the staff at tiny tots for keeping my child safe!!
btw the one needed to be rescued was a guy in a pick up, vehicle #4
Not looking o critize but, can someone explain to me why in gods name did it take the fire men so long to put out the fire when this happened right in front of a station house? Also why were they using water instead of foam? seeing the video would indicate that they took thier jolly old time . Please correct me if i am wrong?
Any news on the blackout in the village park agway area?
Ben Eliezer,
You’re such a ba’aal chesed in your selfless pursuit of community improvement. May you be zoicha, this Rosh Hoshonah, to learn the skill of toichacha without the need for insulting comments. That would really be a positive development for our community.
If anyone has any pictures from the backside to see the pick up truck burning, please send.

1-That station is a volunteer station, not a paid station….its not manned 24/7, the paid station is on cedarbridge
2-The volunteers work for a living and like the rest of the world they generally work during the day and can’t leave for fires, so the ones that show up either don’t work during the day or have a job that allows them to leave for fires
3-Maybe if volunteer firefighters in Lakewood had red lights and sirens in their POV’s they could get there as fast as Hatzola.
the delay to put out the fire was because JCPL did not turn off the power grid after being asked on several times, JCPL wanted to inspect the area before they shut down the power.
The firemen were not taking their time putting foam on the fire!!
With the live wires down the electricity would follow the water back to the truck and electrocute them. Also if you look closely at the pictures they are using foam that is the white stuff all over the vehicle and roadway
There is a reason the firemen took so long to put the fire out. The electric wires that were down were high voltage. Water can conduct electricity. If the men put water on the fire the electricity will travel through the water and electracute them. They had to wait until JCP&L came to turn off the electric on the wires.

Good Question – and the answer
The tree came down on the wires and broke the pole. The wires and tree then landed on the 4 or 5 vehicles involved, which acted to complete the electrical circuit to earth ground via their tires. The wires on the pole are energized to 4800 Volts. When high Voltage lines come down and find a path to ground- you get a an explosion and fire as you saw on the video – it happen 3 times because of the 3 phases of wires on the pole
Firemen are taught not to put water directly on burning wires or electric equipment UNTIL its de-energized. Water is conductive and will complete an electrical circuit -Having the firefighters become part of the ground path via them holding a fire hose which is laying on the ground =DEATH. Sorry but no burning truck is worth a firefighters or policeman’s life. Yes the video looks like something out of a Hollywood movie scene but again it was only a truck fire and burning ENERGIZED wires on the ground. Nothing worth risking a human life for and it all can be replaced.
The gentleman trapped in the last vehicle make a very sound choice to remain in place until he was told by the power company it was safe to exit the vehicle- The fire was two vehicle away with the wind blowing the fire away from his direction. He had time on his side before he was in real danger.
It looks like from the video that fhe fire department did use foam to control the burning fuel that was spilling down the road
Thank goodness no body got hurt…
If wires come down on your vehicle – stay put unless you’re in grave danger– Then you must JUMP AWAY — don’t step out of the vehicle unless you want to DIE
Hope this answers you question.
YEAH WHYAREYOUBOTHERINGME I CAN, FIRST AS YOU MAY BE AWARE WATER IS A VERY GOOD CONDUCTOR OF ELECTRICITY, AS SUCH WE COULD NOT PUT WATER OR FOAM ON THE BURNING VEHICLES DUE TO THE WIRES STILL BEING ENERGIZED. THE POWER COMPANY COULD NOT GET THERE IN A TIMELY FASHON TO CUT THE POWER, SO THE FIRE COULD NOT BE PUT OUT RIGHT AWAY. ALSO THERE WAS A MAN TRAPPED IN THE THIRD VEHICLE, HAD HE OR HIS VEHICLE BEEN SPRAYED WITH WATER OR FOAM HE MAY HAVE BEEN ELECTROCUTED AS HE WAITED TO BE RESCUED. HOPE THIS HELPS YOU TO UNDERSTAND THE WHAT AND WHY’S OF THE SITUATION.
glad to hear dad’s okay peter. I thinkk the grammar people need to get a job (life). how bout teaching english at one of the local chedorim . gud luk!
Just me
It is perfectly acceptable to separate two independent clauses, attached with a coordinating conjunction, with a comma.
I ran, but he walked.
I ran, and he walked.
I ran, so he walked.
I did not learn grammar in school; I taught myself. (This is true.)
A semi-colon is used between two related sentences. A period may also be used, but the semi-colon emphasises the relationship between the two.
I should give an adult education class on grammar.
If anyone wants an excellent book to learn grammar from, get a copy of The Gregg Reference Manual.
