PHOTO: This past Motzei Shabbos, over 200 Toronto children took part in the Lakewood’s Likras Shabbos program which recently expanded to several other cities around the US and Canada. The program – currently with over fifteen groups in local Shuls in a variety of neighborhoods in Lakewood alone – consists of boys spending 30- 45 minutes prior to Kabalas Shabbos learning and acquiring some of the most common Halachos of Shabbos.
One of the major factors of Likras Shabbos’ worldwide success, is the Sefer Meorei Halacha, which is based on the world renowned Sefer Klalim Behilchos Shabbos. Meorei Halacha is an illustrated series of Sefarim on Melachos such as Bishul, Borer, Tochen, and Dosh etc., which is specifically geared for children.
A wide ranging network of paid professional Rabbeim, selected and directed by the Likras Shabbos give the Halacha Shiurim to the boys every Erev Shabbos, putting a particular emphasis on articulating these complex Halachos in an enjoyable, child friendly manner.
The Toronto awards event took place at the Bais Yaakov auditorium.
