Clean Energy Company Shows Interest In Locating Its U.S. Headquarters In Lakewood

township committee 2011Elcon Energy, Haifa, Israel, with facilities in Italy, has shown interest in locating its U.S. headquarters in Lakewood. Elcon produces clean energy from pharmaceutical, food and beverage, and industrial wastewater. Elcon uses clean technology and recycles its own output of steam energy to create a sustainable loop. In other words, the process is looped so the energy produced powers its own system. Excess energy is then circulated to the electrical grid, such as JCP&L.

Representatives from Elcon will be in attendance at the Lakewood Township Committee meeting May 26 to make a presentation to the public and explain its process. The public is invited to attend to learn about Elcon and its plans.  A question and answer period will follow the presentation.

  1. to #1 what does it matter if its a frum company, I don’t understand how you can say something like that, it’s business for lakewood and who knows maybe some jobs,

  2. Think of the Co-Gen plant. It was SUPPOSED to supply steam to the rest of the industrial park and to Kimbal Med Center along with the electricity. So where is the steam going?????? NOWHERE.

  3. guys before you get excited google it.
there is a reason this companies come to lakewood .
No one else wants them. Its a pharmaceutical waste and lakewood will host it.

  4. In other words, the process is looped so the energy produced powers its own system. Excess energy is then circulated to the electrical grid, such as JCP&L. Just remember POWER IN IS ALWAYS GREATER THAN POWER OUT. That means it will not make enough power to run its self and send power back to the grid. What dangers come with this plant?

  5. this is wonderful, innovative idea that will put lakewood on the map for a good reason finally! all of you nay-sayers really should go to the meeting and learn about the project before putting it down. i’ve known about this for some weeks now and have done a great deal of research and all i can say is its a win-win situation for everyone. im very impressed that the powers-that-be in lakewood are open to reviewing this idea and hope that they keep thinking of ways to bring green, money-saving evergy into this town

  6. Taking in waste for processing is the equivalent of garbage recycling. Lakewood already has a bad reputation as a dump of sorts. We will just be the laughing stock of the area. We need clean, viable business. We do not need another disposal site. The co-generation plant has done nothing positive for our community. They’ve gotten tax breaks and decreases so that any benefit is gone.

  7. Lakewood already has a reputation as a dump of sorts. This is simply another way of saying waste recycling operation. The risks are greater than any benefit to the town. The co-generation plant has gotten tax deferments and decreases that makes them a liability instead of an asset. We need clean, viable businesses not garbage reprocessing operations.

  8. we have to much garbage in Lakewood now do we really need more. The township must do a better job filling the industrial parks up with companies that will pay taxes, not companies that could kill our clear air.
Brick and the surrounding area’s have done a great job in bring retail stores to the communities, Lakewood could and should be entertaining the big boys

  9. Elcon are trying again their luck here in Italy. By the way Elcon do not have a single “facility” in operation in the country. The plan seems to be planned to treat pharmaceutical waste at stone throwing distance from residential houses inside the city of Castellanza.
