With many traffic light around Lakewood still non-functional, it is worth reminding readers of the law requiring motorists to treat such an intersection as if it were a 4-way stop.At a 4-way stop, motorists are required to come to a full stop before the crosswalk or stop line to allow for pedestrians to cross.
After a full-stop has been made and pedestrians have crossed, vehicles have the right-of-way to proceed through the intersection in the order that they arrived at the intersection. If vehicles arrive at approximately the same time, each driver must yield to the drivers on their right.
Leave this post here forever. Maybe it will save one life and it will be worth it. I’m not the most careful driver but to see what was going on around town yesterday, it was like an off road crazy clown car suicidal derby. Whoever had the most guts, and the bigger horn, got through. I think I saw some drivers say viduy, close their eyes, and step on the gas. Apparently four way stops are extremely hard to navigate. Either everyone stops and stares at each other trying to figure out what to do or everyone just goes and hopes for the best. If you can’t get the concept, STAY OFF THE ROAD!
The reason why people are flying through the intersections is not that they don’t know its a four way stop, its because they ARE treating it like they treat every stop sign!!
I agree. the last thing we should tell drivers in this town is to treat the intersection like a stop sign because that will tell them to just drive on through without stopping! Maybe we should tell them to treat each intersection like a pizza shop or shwarma store.. they will definitely stop for that
What bothers me is that with no bussing, schools chose to open. It’s hard enough with working traffic lights; non working lights at major intersections make it very dangerous indeed. I for one will not be driving today.
Just like every day in Lakewood. Stop signs and red lights mean nothing.
hey ima you would rather put your kid on a bus that can tip if it gets hit than drive your own child to school? To make sure he gets there safe.
it isn’t helping matters when the cops are sitting in their cars shmoozing, like in the TD Bank lot, while cars are struggling to safely cross route 9 at both kennedy and county line. i was quite disappointed that cops were only there directing in the evening and not daytime. it’s a hazard.
The bus tipping applies everyday, regardless of the driving conditions. Today, given the exceptional hazerdous conditions, In order to keep MY kids safe… I kept them home. Busing would have resulted in fewer cars on the road thus reducing the accident potential. I always put my kids safety first.
Why don’t people just stay off the streets since the Gov. has call a state of emergency. Most people can not drive during normal driving conditions so please stay at home so the people who have an emergency or are helping persons in need. try to enjoy life under a safe condition all you non driving NUTS!!!
