VIDEO: Mother Of Critical Hit-And-Run Victim Pleads For Driver To Come Forward

VIDEO: As police Sunday evening handed out thousands of fliers to motorists on Kennedy Boulevard in an attempt to locate a hit-and-run driver, the mother of the critical victim stopped by to plead for the suspect to come forward.

Flanked by Traffic and Safety Officers, Mrs. Gavilanez, mother of 17 year old Jennifer Gavilanez, pleaded for the driver – or anyone with information on the driver – to come forward to that justice could be served.

Police say they handed out over 4,000 fliers as motorists passed by the scene of last week’s accident.

Anyone with information is asked to call Patrolman David Silberstien at 732-363-0200, extension 5387. TLS.

  1. I feel very bad for the victim and the victims family, but asking a criminal to come forward and turn themselves in is laughable. Im sure its a very rare case where. someone who is not already a suspect voluntarily turns themselves in.
I do hope the police catch the person responsible and they receive the maximum punishment.

  2. The sensitivity shown by the Lakewood Police Department in a time like this has to make us feel so privileged to live in this town that has such a wonderful police department, and it starts from the top – our very special police chief. Thank you LPD.

  3. just watching this video shows you how dark our streets are
PLEASE MORE STREET AND TRAFFIC LIGHTS IN OUR TOWN ALREADY SO THIS WONT HAPPEN AGAIN !!!!!!!!
    TY

  4. #1 laughable-that was harsh!…..this is there last resort to try and catch the person responsible, hope’n that there gilt would lead them to turning them selfs in,what would you do in this situation?

  5. As a mother and a family friend, I can only imagine how difficult this must be for FeMaria Gavilanez, her daughter is fighting for her life. I pray that the person responsible realizes that he/she will eventually be caught, he/she can’t hide forever, justice will prevail. My prayers go out to the family and Jennifer.

  6. Watching the video does indeed show how dark it is at night in the area. It also shows the traffic light that the teen was crossing at and all the street lights in the area. This unfortunate accident has nothing to do with traffic light or street lights. It has to do with an uncaring person who hit a young beautiful teenage girl and left her there. Now they are hiding so they don’t have to face the charges of the accident. My prayers for the teen and her family that they find the driver and prosecute them to the fullest.
