VIDEO: Mayor Miller On Sandy Recovery In Lakewood

VIDEO: Mayor Menashe Miller continues to keep Lakewood resident posted about the overall situation in Lakewood in regards to recovery from the devastating Hurricane Sandy.

In his latest video message, the Mayor says he is doing whatever in his power possible to see to it that the recovery process in Lakewood goes as smooth and and quick as possible, but certain things are just not in his hands.

“Moving trees around, uncovering storm drains, that’s the easy stuff”, the Mayor – who did just that during the stor, said. “Unfortunately, we can’t go up on the poles, and for that we have to rely on JCP&L.” The Mayor added, “Nothing personal, but I don’t have high ratings for JCP&L.”

The Mayor recommended that customers keep calling JCP&L at 888-544-4877.

  1. “Nothing personal, but I don’t have high ratings for JCP&L.”

Just like the rest of us. I would like to hear from an executive at JCPL (not some twitter entry level – social media specialist- employee) and what they have been doing for the last few days. How much you want to make a bet, they are on some beach in Florida and not accessible.

Cant we find a replacement to JCPL?

  2. We NEED to replace JCP&L. They are able to do what they want when they want because they have the contract. Menashe, we need to show them that we are not playing games. Open it to bidding.

  3. twp.employee – precisely the point. Lkwd wasn’t even hit that hard- why are we still out of power??

My main problem is their PR- or lack of thereof – You get the usual 7-10 days answer. We want concise answers,

    1. What got damaged that affected our area?
    2. How many people are working on it?
    3. When will the job be complete? Date.

The level of incompetence on ‘all levels’ is mind boggling.

It shouldn’t be that hard. It appears the head managers have no idea how to structure a plan of action of- how to address, resolve and communicate.

    Extraordinarily unprofessional.

  4. The selfishness I am reading is incredible. I am not an apologist for JCP&L, but I am sure they have higher priorities to take care of then residential properties. Some of those priorities are repairing sub-stations that have been damaged, repairing lines to police stations, fire houses, and hospitals, lines to traffic lights, and lines to gas stations.

  5. What they don’t know yet, they can’t tell us!! The overall repair starts at the power station and substation level. Other major power grid components, too. Logically, they’d have most repair personnel at such sites right now. Once these can function, they have a chance to predict local repairs.

  6. why the cynicism about west gate?? they have been one of the first area’s to get their power back. JCPL is doing what they can.
Menashe thanks for all your hard work

  7. Again selfcentered people, Lakewood was not the only town hit by the storm. Towns around us are in more devestration than we can only think. Sick of the complainers, think of a way you could maybe help others less off than you. Try being kind to someone outside of your comminity.

  8. 10,11 – why cant they better communicate?

13- “Try being kind to someone outside of your community.” what does this have to do with ‘our’ ‘your’ ‘their’ community?

Go to their twitter page – plenty of people are complaining that ARENT from lkwd.

Enough with the self centered. Just communicate.

  9. time to move out of the sedom of NJ & move to eretz yisroel ASAP

Lakewood people are too self-centered & don’t even realize that we were hit by a drop compared to other places where people’s lives & homes were destroyed & now don’t even have a place to go.

lets be happy that its just the electric & not worse that happened.

in the meantime take out a tehillim or a sefer & say something & that will definitely help

  10. I am still sitting in the dark so I have beef with JCP&L but I am truly gateful to the Mayor for being out on my block in person together with Public Works making sure the felled tree was cut up and move to the side.

  11. Mr Mayor pls demand jcpl to send down a supervisor and hold a press conference and then give him a tour and show him how little damage we have locally all we need is a couple of line men and FLIP THOSE SWITCHES ON!

  12. Now everybody’s happy with DPW,let’s see if everybody’s so happy after the first snow storm.By the way,I dont have nothing against DPW.I think they are awesome,to work in Lakewood where’s everybody is in a rush.

  13. Rumor has it that there is some type of wrangling between the township and JCPL about responsibilty to clear certain areas. Please, now is not the time. For how long can life come to a stand still ? Large families with babies at home ?
Please clean it up and fight with JCPL later in court.
Many of us are strained to the limits already .
It would be a real disgrace if this is prolonged due to wrangling.

  14. I cannot even believe that Lakewood is complaining about no electric, no bussing for non-public kids..How about being thankful that you were not on the direct hit list for the superstorm ,and getting on your knees to Thank Hashem that your families are safe…Take a look around you at the devastation to other towns..there are people out there who lost EVERYTHING..Instead of complaining.. because JCP&L did not get to you first, how about volunteering at one of the many shelters..that will open your eyes..
