Website Created To Help Families Find Home For Shabbos

Hurricane Sandy left many in the Lakewood area in the dark, and miserable. But Sandy has also brought out the best of Klal Yisroel. A Lakewood resident has opened a website to match families without electric with families that are fortunate enough to have a powered and warm home, for the duration of Shabbos.

“I personally never lost power where I live, but felt the need to do something after seeing those crazy long lines at all the gas stations, so I created this site”, the site’s founder wrote/

If you have power in your home, and have room to take in another family that doesn’t, you can list your information on the site.

Alex, you are a true star. Understanding other peoples plight in a time when you and your family can not relate is amazing. People of Lakewood, understand what a true Jew is supposed to be, Believe me this is what Hashem wants of us. It’s an honor to be your neighbor.

Thank you all for the kind words. It’s amazing to see so many postings. I’ve gotten a few reports that the site isn’t working, and I’ve determined that it’s not working on Internet Explorer versions 7 and lower (you really shouldn’t be using those anyway :p ). Either way, if you don’t have access to another browser, feel free to either use the contact page, or email me directly at and I’ll post your information.

This website is SUCH a great idea! And whats even more touching is all the responses! Seeing so many people open their homes to complete strangers in a time of need is truly inspiring. Mi K’amcha yisroel.
One word of advice for people who need a place to stay, please respond to the listings as soon as possible. Although many are hopeful that their power will be restored by Friday and will not need to leave their homes for Shabbos, procrastinating it will make last minute arrangements a lot more challenging on the host. (Especially if their food is already cooked for Shabbos)

Due to a number of emails from some folks, I just updated the site to also include a tab for Generators (if you have an extra, or no longer need yours etc) as well as a miscellaneous tab for various other things that might help others out.
