Abuse of Handicapped Parking one of Several Topics Addressed by Rabbi Paysach Krohn in Lakewood Over Shabbos

PHOTOS: Abusing Handicapped parking spaces was one of several topics Rabbi Paysach Krohn addressed during several speeches in Lakewood this past Shabbos.

As word spread over Shabbos of Rabbi Krohn’s presence in Lakewood, many requested he speak for several different audiences, which he gladly agreed upon despite the short notice.

Friday night, Rabbi Krohn spoke between Kabolos Shabbos and Maariv at Cong. Ohr Yechzikel, on Shabbos Morning he spoke at Congregation Sons of Israel, on Shabbos Afternoon he spoke for women, and finally on Motzei Shabbos he addresses a large crowd at a Negba Street Shul.

One of the several topics touched upon, were about Lev Tov. He gave various examples of being a Lev Tov by helping others. One example he gave of helping others, was helping those who are challenged- caring for them and their families.

He said parking in handicapped spots is an example of what the Mishna in Peah states “If one fakes of being crippled, he will not pass on from this world before such actually happening to him.” He stated if you have a Lev Tov, you would never take the handicapped spot. Besides the Halachic perspective, it is a Midos issue of Bein Adom Lchaverio and Bein Adom L’Makom of having a Lev Tov.

Rabbi Krohn also mentioned a vort from Harav Schwab Zt”l. Why just before the 4 sons in the Hagadah it states Boruch “Hamokom” Boruch Hu. Why do we use such a word as Hamakom that we use by losses, such as Hamakom yenachem Eschem. A similar Hamokom is mentioned when one has a loss of money- Hamakom Yemaley Es Chsronom, and by Hamokom Yercahim Alayhem.

The Answer, said Rabbi Krohn, is that Hamakom is a message that Hashem is everywhere, Hashem cares for you and Hashem is always with you especially during your times of struggle. You are not alone.

Says Rabbi Krohn, some people will sit down at the Seder and will wonder in which direction their children are heading. Some are at risk, some need chizuk. Some you are worried what will be with them in the future, their learning, or their ability to keep up. The message is that Hashem is with you no matter what your child’s status is now. Hashem is with you and don’t give up on any child no matter the status of the ‘4 sons’ they may fall under. Show them love at all times under any circumstance. Show them that you care. Show them love and you will see they will be the ones who in the future will give you the biggest Nachas. You are not alone. Hashem is with you at all times. Boruch Hamokom Boruch Hu.

On Motzei Shabbbos Rabbi Krohn spoke at the Melva Malka for Bnos Esther Malka Elementary School and visited privately with Cholim in the community.

  1. Nothing bothers me more in this town than how people feel it is ok to park in handicap spots and fire zones. It’s despicable that people have the notion that their business is more important or urgent than others and feel they have the right to park in these places. It doesn’t matter which organizations placard you display, unless you are actually on official duty, you don’t have that right.

  2. Rabbi Krohn also said if that the word Venasnu is a paladrom and the trup is a kadma vaszla bent towards to each other like the Keruvim. That if you give you will get back. Have a Lev Tov and give- you will surely get back.

He also stated from the Bnei Ysissocher the words Lev (32) Tov (17) is the Gematrya of 49 which represent the 49 days to Matan Torah in which we need to work on our Lev Tov for others to have the correct midos of caring for others and then we will iy”h be prepared to be Mekabel the Torah with the correct Midos.

  3. Whoever would even think about parking in a handicapped spot may just be handicapped as handicaps come in many forms. His or her handicap may just be from the neck up. People just need to start engaging the brain a little bit before acting or speaking etc….
Just this morning at a stop sign a driver behind me is beeping when he certainly could not even see whether there was traffic coming or not.
WHEN I AM IN A RUSH IT IS NOT YOUR PROBLEM & WHEN YOU ARE IN A RUSH IT IS NOT MINE!!! REMEMBER ” BISHVILI NIVRE HAOLAM” SHOULD LEAVE YOUR MIND WHEN YOU ARE DRIVING OR PARKING FOR THAT MATTER!!!

With all due respect to Rabbi Krohn Shlita we should not need him nor any other prominent speaker to remind us of basic decency!!

WISHING THE LAKEWOOD COMMUNITY & ALL OF KLAL YISROEL A SAFE & WONDERFUL WEEK!!!

  4. Kudos Rabbi Krohn. I say we ask the “dash-cam” people and anyone else with any ability to take photos to take pictures of cars parked in handicapped spots without displaying any evidence that the car is allowed to park there. Then lets please post pictures of these cars and their plate #’s so we can all see them and then when we meet up with the drivers of those cars we should say something.

I for one would turn down a perspective Shidduch for one of my children just on this alone. A family who disregards the care and concern for those with physical challenges is not a family I would want to be Meshaddech with. A family who thinks they are better then the rest and they are to important to park elsewhere EVEN FOR A MINUTE is a family so self centered I wouldn’t want to be Meshadech with them.

Please – all of Lakewood – let’s expose these bozo’s who park in handicapped spaces for who they really are. Self centered egomaniac losers.

  5. Rabbi Krohn of course is 100% correct but I notice that there are a disproportionate amount of handicap spaces in some parking lots at small stores. what are that chances that 5 handicapped people will be shopping at kosher village AT THE SAME TIME?

  6. shmichelfoofer, the state mandates the amount of handicapped spots. If there are between 101 and 150 spots in the lot, five of them have to be handicap spots.

  7. It must be mentioned that many people “complain” of parking in handicap parking spots. Just for the record, A LEGAL handicap Spot must have a pole with a sign delegating it as a handicap spot. JUST having the blue picture on the floor means NOTHING!!!

Many times when parking lots are created, handicap spoits are automatically printed in order for them not to have to come back, but many times, the handicap spot gets switched which is why you will see a spot painted, but no pole in front!

    Just sayin…

  8. For those who don’t need handicap spots just say thank you and leave those spots for the designated ones. They deserve the respect just like others. Remember… they wish they can just park in regular spots without the stigma of parking in handicap spots. Please respect thier requests especially when once they needed these handicap spots they didn’t even dream they would still be fighting for their rights.

  9. If Rabbi Krohn got up to the podium and brought this topic up, he must have felt there is a deeper lacking besides just parking in handicap spots maybe he was trying to say we should be more aware of those neighborhs and look after them maybe even offering them a ride or a helping hand, to most it’s obvious we shouldn’t steal their spots but why are we not doing more ??? There is always more to do. Let’s stay united so we can all together experince the greatest yet to come. It will come when everybody is accounted for and no handicaps in any form are left behind. Let’s get all our troops from all organizations and our neibhoring civilians and form the greatest army of all times as we are preparing for the “PASS-OVER”.

  10. your information is wrong partially the painted spots are mandated by law and the planning and zoning dictate exactly were they are supposed to be.
If the signs are missing the police cant ticket but the inspections department is supposed to not issue a CO if its missing. If later after the CO the signage is missing the property owner is supposed to get a summons to maintain the signage and markings at all times. The LPD is supposed to report this to the inspection department if they come across a situation of missing signs. You can also call the inspection department.

  11. If this affects you please contact your rav to publicly announce people should not use the handicapp spots. Ask that signage and markings be uptodate.

if you have had an issue like this contact rabbi krohn. Let him hear from others that this issue must be resolved.

  12. Inspection departments
    When will they care?
The state should come in and find out why they are not doing there job with regards to making sure there are handicap spots in the first place. Then ask why they are not inspecting the properties every 2 years to be sure the signage is upto code. As well as other issues. The landlords know they can get away with it becauze of the lack of enforcement
