In response to the tragic incidents of the Meshulachim who were struck by vehicles – most recently several weeks ago, the Tomchei Tzedakah will begin offering reflectors to those who come for an Ishur.
Tomchei Tzedakah’s organizers say they will be offering the reflectors to the Meshulachim at a reduced minimal fee of $1, and hope to make up for the approximately $2 difference through donations.
The refelctors are in addition to the other items th eorganization assists Meshulachim with.
“Tomchei Tzedaka of Lakewood has for many years been distributing to meshulachim gloves, scarves, ear muffs, etc., all at no charge to the Meshulachim,” says the Tomchei Tzedakah. “Our cost is about $1,500 a year.”
“We would like to start giving a reflector to each Meshulach that wants one, asking them only for a $1.00 donation. Each reflector is $3.10 and we expect our net cost to be about $2500 a year, bringing the total budget for this project to $4,000.”
Several weeks ago, a Meshulach was struck on Madison Avenue and critically injured. About 3 years ago on Purim, another Meshulach was struck and also critically injured. Both were reportedly not wearing reflectors.
But it’s not just Meshulachim. Following several serious incidents, Township Officials Yehuda Abraham and Committeeman Menashe Miller have been instrumental in implementing the use of refelctors among Yeshivah Bachurim and in Shuls.

I just want to thank all the amazing people who have these wonderful ideas and act on them. H-shem should grant you all many brochos!
I think its more important to give free reflectors than gloves/earmuffs which people may give them when they see a Meshulach walking in the bitter cold.
I hope they get a letter/notice letting them know about the two struck Meshulachim and advising them to cross by lights only as well as “hitching etiquette”, not ppounding on doors late @ night never using the bell after 7:00 etc.
Really great idea.
The upgraded reflectors (not the one in the picture) can be purchased in bulk at 1.50 each. I have done that and have given out to meshluchim & others the upgraded belts.

Why are you scared to post my comment. You ppl that moderate the comments are a bunch of scared ppl. WHo are you scared of???
Im the one that posted the comment last time that they should give them out.
But, why are they charging for the reflector? they are already charging the meshulachim for their ishur 3 times a year?!?!?!?!?!
we should give to them before they come knocking on the door so they wont need to come in the first place and wont need the reflectors
Its about time Why did it take so long?
