Back to School: Privately-Hired School Buses, Carpools to Hit the Roads Tomorrow

Thousands of Lakewood boys – of Lakewood’s private schools – will be heading back to school tomorrow for the new school year, which means the morning commute will be in full swing.

However, the Board of Education will not be providing transportation, as the official start of the school year isn’t until Labor Day. Which mean, if your child’s school hasn’t arranged for busing, you will find yourself carpooling.

Lakewood’s Transportation Committee Chairman Joel Schwartz, who initially tried to facilitate the schools by providing BOE busing, tells TLS the idea was taken off the table after the board determined that some bus drivers may fail to show up for work.

“We didn’t want children waiting for buses which may or may not show up,” says Schwartz.

While most boys schools begin tomorrow, most girls school don’t begin for about another week. [TLS]

Kids waiting means BH they are healthy enough to stand too. Loads of them means wow, look at the next generation of from hidden coming up! And say…Thank u Hashem for all this traffic!!!

  2. Thanks Number 1, you are so right and we forget and take it soooo forgranted!!! Also I do not understand why parents dont take their kids to school the first day of the year, (at least for the first, second and maybe 3rd grade). Kids are still little, and I would want to know what my kids teacher and rebbi’s name is from the first minute I bring him to school…
