By: Rabbi Dr. Joel Rosenshein, PSD. The world of today is nothing like the ‘world that was’. Not even remotely similar. One of the pressing issues of our times, and an issue that seems to be getting worse and worse, with no solution in sight, is the issue of children and teenagers who find themselves with no school to go to. For whatever reason, they find themselves falling through the cracks and just not being accepted or fitting in to the school system.
There are many reasons why a child will find himself in this situation, most of them, in my opinion, not valid, but nevertheless, the situation is what it is. The child can be a little learning disabled or socially inept, or the teenager can be perfectly intelligent and even gifted, but for whatever reason is not sure what direction he wants to proceed in life, which often leaves them unable or unwilling to proceed with the regular school system.
As a founder of P’Tach, and as someone who is very involved with the Board of Education, I am very active in helping children, offering them guidance and assistance in finding their place in life and ultimately in finding a place that will fit their chosen path in life.
I am pleased to offer my time to any child, teen or parent who would like to discuss their issues and hopefully help them sort out the doubts and reservations and help them arrive at a satisfactory conclusion.
A simple consultaion can often identify things that have been lying dormant within a child for years. The problem of ‘lost children’ is getting worse as the years go by; it doesn’t have to be this way. I would like to be part of the solution, and am willing to do so free of charge. Though some children definitely need more professional intervention, many do not need more than some simple guidance and validation.

Then if they have a learning disability there is always the School for Children with Hidden Intelligence. Send them there. Stop crying the blues, you have it very good in Lakewood. Try being one of us that have to struggle in the real world.
