To all the brilliant people like number 1 who think that this is what the post is for. These comments are to give people real ideas where they can take their families to enjoy some family bonding. Going to a beis medrash is beautiful but thats not what this post is for.
Buy or borrow a tent and find a campsite somewhere cool like vermont or maine. Its a economic trip and fun.
Stop being soo spoiled.
Go back to nature and enjoy life the way people did. For thousands of years.

Anon – I was joking but u make a good point and so I ask the scoop why they taake post it !? Perhaps they feel its taake the best shot ! A/w it seems the other places ppl are coming up with are pretty nebby so maybe the B”M was not such a bad idea after all – plus u can wheel the baby carriage up and down 7th or 6th st while the hubby shtiegs away inside (and u can even tell ur kid -in yiddish of course- that Tati is shtieging in that big yeshiva now……
there is a national guard museum in sea girt that is very nice (mostly for boys) has a lot of uniforms from diff. periods in history, info on the diff. wars/battles in this area, many actual tanks and fighter planes, lots of weapons from diff. periods, lifelike replicas of diff. scenes, etc. It is on an active national guard base so you need ID (license ok). open 10-3 every day and free. because it is right near the beach, a perfect time to go is during any nice weather — everyone else will be at the beach and you will basically have the place to yourselves — no tznius issues.
P.S. if anyone else has good ideas for where you can take boys that don’t present a tznius problem I would be very appreciative if you could share them. thanks.
another possibility is the recycling center off of New Hampshire Ave as far as I know they allow people to tour the facilities but I never did it so don’t know much about it.
The National Guard Museum was severely flooded by sandy and recently reopened. Does anyone know if they are fully up and runing?
Fruit and vegetable picking -Dewolf farms in New Egypt, NJ, The Jackson wood park near the Jackson Library, also the sprinkler park is very nice and has a park next to it. Its called Dorbrook in Colts Neck, NJ. Skating rink on County Line in Jackson, the Jewish farm in Lakewood. Asbury Park has glass blowing shop on the board walk, very interesting to see and do, white water rafting in Pennsylvania-Jim Thorpe is name of place.
Dorbrook is good for women and young children, but I believe it may be a serious tznius issue for others. Just a heads up. Staten Island Ferry is free (round trip to Manhattan, cost would be Outerbridge toll and $7 parking during the week, free on Sundays). Staten Island Children’s Museum in Snug Harbor is a super place to take the kids, $6 a person age 1+, but when we went they gave us a coupon for the next time 4 free admissions plus the rest half off for the next visit. It really is great. There’s SI Zoo and Botanical Gardens near there too.
And if you’re OK with going to Atlantic City (near the boardwalk), theres Ripley’s Believe It or Not museum. There’s also Lucy the Elephant (building shaped like an elephant) in Margate (southern NJ), Cape May County Zoo (free), and all the attractions in Philadelphia (hour and a half away).
There is an interesting botanical gardens in Middletown, NJ called Deep Cut Gardens (free), as well as a park right near there with a historical working farm, I think it’s Holmdel something Park. Don’t forget Allaire Village right near Lakewood with blacksmith and other historical stuff ($5 parking) and nearby antique train ride.
A few more: Atlantic Farms ($2 a head for ages 1+, $3 a bag of carrots to feed the animals incl. cows, goats, sheep, emus, llama, pigs, ponies), 15 minutes out of Lakewood in Farmingdale; Shark River Park, Turkey Swamp Park and other parks in Parks System with trails, playgrounds, fields and BBQ sites; Cattus Island Park with nature center, butterfly garden, bike lending and trails through salt marshes on boardwalk; Manasquan Reservoir with nature center and trails; and Swingtime in Howell, with batting cages, arcades and mini golf.

The incline club is located on locust rd right over the 70 great for roller blading bmx biking and scootering on ramps and inclined fixtures!
Island beach st park. The first mile or so has official swimming with life guards. If u keep on driving , eventually u will find a empty lot where u can go to the beach and it will be empty. Better go after 3:00 pm . You are more guaranteed to find an empty spot.
Forgot to mention that it cost a few bucks to get in the st park.

i tried that 13th avenue walk idea and it was the most depressing day I ever spent.
BP has NOTHING to offer a lakewooder. everything here is nicer, bigger, cleaner and more spacious.
went to the stone museam in monroe township 30 min from lakewood last sunday its open till 4 on sunday hac a blast talk to the greek the owner great guy ask about the bird feeders and playground all is free
Kayak rentals 5 minutes out of Lakewood. Go straight down Cedarbridge Avenue , cross the 70 and two minutes later on the left side. Beautiful and calm bay, even the kids can do it. Singles and tandem kayaks. A tandem (double) is $20 an hour. If somebody doesn’t want to go in and just wants to watch, you can swing around to a little park opposite the marina on the other side and wait over there.

If your willing to go to Philadelphia, there is the Philadelphia Zoo, and the Please Touch museum, The museum is for young children, but it’s great. Neither one is particularly cheap, but it’s a whole day trip, and very worth it. While your there, there’s always the Liberty Bell and all the other historic landmarks of Philly.
and by the way, Philly is not more than an hours drive from Lakewood.

governers island. Take the staten island ferry and pick up the governers island ferry. Only open weekends
you can go to a cape cod and stay in onset masachusettes. there is a beutiful shule there with many things to do not to far away. Enjoy.
